Crystal colleen, I refereed to traveler because the woman who emailed me told me the last time a similar situation happened they found out it was a traveler.
I didn't call them any names, say that it was typical, I just said wht she said and changed the language so I wouldn't offend!!!
Seems like u have just seen the word traveler and jumped down my throat!!!!

Just to update you all, fluffy had his op on his tummy and is soon having his leg amputated soon. He is expected to make a full recovery and will be home after Xmas :)

We had a particularly bad case here a few weeks ago a man and lady set their mastif x on a 32 year old pony... When the Ponys owner went to help they told them to get lost or they would set their rotty on them! They have since been caught and I believe he is in court today. I don't know what happened to the dogs but I suspect they have been destroyed. The pony lost alot of blood as it attacked his throat but is making a slow recovery :( I honestly do not know how these people sleep at night. I love dogs and strongly believe that it is not their fault at all it's the owners but once the get a taste for blood they need to be destroyed xx hope fluffy gets on ok xx

I saw the pictures and he looked a mess. So glad that the owner was caught.

I do disagree with your statement of having to destroy a dog if it has the taste for bloodthough. Dogs are not natural killers and thay CAN be rehabilitated. Google " Michael Vick" and follow the links to all the rescued fighting dogs that are now happy and gentle family pets. The things that Fighting dogs are trained to do make you sick to the stomache, things you could never imagine in your wildest nightmares but it has been trained to do these things on command. Once the triggers are removed and the dog learns that humans can be kind and that killing and violence are not required for survival they very quickly, most of them on the day of rescue, become soft soppy babies, grateful to finally leave their living hell behind.

I am pleased that Fluffy has survived and many cats do lead happy lives with 3 legs. Poor little thing, I would be so cross and sad that my beautiful Kitty has been maimed for life. What a sad reminder every day of such a horrific thing. Please tell your friend that our thoughts are with her and that she must try to make sure that the evil person at fault gets his just rewards

Really I never knew that, thank you for opening my eyes, unfortunately I don't think certain authorities have the resources for the rehabilitation and the majority do get destroyed.. I would like to think that they can become loving loyal pets it's a much nicer to think they have this chance xx

I didn't say you had and I have not seen the word traveller and jumped down your throat bit extrem to say the least lol. Many refer to themselves as travellers but personally I choose gypsy as I don't travel

My point was if it was a black man or Asian or Chinese would you have pointed this out in your post probobly not you would have just said man that's all I'm saying.

I was mearly pointing out a fact and another that were not all the same as someone else has pointed out to.

Now that out the way I hope fluffy makes a good recovery.

I have a lurcher and she has no interest in "hunting". We walk through the woods and she sees rabbits, birds etc and couldn't care less. These dogs have been taught to do this.

I go to dog training every week and have done since my dog was 12 weeks and I have seen some amazing things.

Dog breeds that are renowned for searching that have never done searching before litterally go into an open field lots of different smells and noises and search for there item and do it straight off the cuff.

My trainers dog who she has never been taught to hunt would instinctively hunt but because she
is a responsible owner and knows her stuff has taught her dog it is not exceptable to do it and has trained to dog to Listern to her commands he will not do it.

My dog who has not been taught to gard will gard his home he thinks he's the big I AM when he's on the other side of the window lol but outside he's soft and everyone is his friend and is certainly not vicious.

It's about socialisation,a good owner and plenty of training.

I'm not saying that people don't train there dogs to do this to other animals because these sick owners do but sometimes dogs natural instinks kick in.

I was out once and a poor old lady had her dog walking through ashridge and her dog shot off she was shouting and screaming thinking he was running way and 2 mins later cane back with a rabbit in it's mouth she was mortified and the dog had never done it before.

Clearly the people in the stories above have taught there dogs to do harm but I'm just saying that sometimes it is instinct.x

One of my boys is a German Shepherd X Rottweiller and he LOVES guarding everything from toys to the front door. He has destroyd some letters in his day if I dont get to the door before him when the post comes. His instinct seems to be getting stronger the older he gets too but I love him to bits, he is super obedient in all other ways so I have learnd to live with it.

Border Terriers are well known for going walkabout on walks, Huskies too, Beagles, Cairn Terrirs are all independent on walks and some owners never let them off the lead because they have been lost before.

Spaniels and Springer Spaniels love rummaging through the undergrowth. I could go on and on but I am really just trying to say that different breeds of dog have certain behaviours and instincts, they were bred to be this way. As responsible owners it is our responsibility to research the breed we want and make sure that they will fit in with our lfestyle.

A high energy dog like a Staffie will probably be naughty in a home where they get no exercise or mental stimulation, same with a Border Collie. All those poor Huskies put into rescue because they were cute puppies but became impossible to handle when they grew up !!!! This would not happen if they had been sold to the correct type of owner.

Hunting dogs are seldom vicious, they are trained to flush game and then call the owner or bring the prey back to the owner undamaged. So I dont think that dogs have an inherent bloodlust, most animals don't apart from carnivores who hunt for survival and then it is only for food not for fun

Thank you, I do a lot of work with rescues across the world and I swear there are nights when I cry myself to sleep from what I see.

You are right, there is such a lack of resources and I often do wonder if some of these poor lost ones would be better off PTS.But then when they slowly slink up to you shivering with fear and try to give you a gentle little kiss you cant condemn them to death without at least trying to save that one life.

The other problem is that people need educating and it all takes time, I fear we are losing the battle because as the younger generations are growing up the problems seem to be getting worse. Maybe before the social media age we just never got to hear about all of these cases

Actually I would because its pointing out what that person looks like! Not racist at all!

I wasnt saying you were racist either what are you reading seriously

I am mearly saying it didn't matter if the person was traveller, black,White,Asian Chinese,Spanish,French or whatever at the end of the day a mans dog attacked a cat that is the main point of your post is it not.weather he was traveller, black White and so on is irrelevant in your post.

I'm not arguing with you I was mearly pointing something out and I'm entitled to do so.

We see so many posts on this site using the words not my words by the way Chinese nail bars and they are corrected as the word Chinese has no relevance to the post at all.someones back ground or ethnic group has no relevance.

That's all I'm not arguing was mearly just saying and I'm sure my post was a little comicle

Let's get back to poor fluffy he's the topic of the thread

Hi Colleen, I live in a predominantly Gypsy Village and there is a Travellers site about 500 yards from me. Most of the Gypsy families have long ago settled and I find that the quickest way to upset them is to call them Travellers. They are Gypsy and Proud of it. Not quite sure what the implications are either way of Being Gypsy or Traveller but as with all other races and denominations good and bad are found.

I know what it is like to be judged by your heritage ( I am a white South African, raised in the Apartheid era and have lived with the " racism stigma" all my life) People believe what they want to, all I know is that I do not deserve the scorn I have had to endure because of my misfortune or fortune of being born in the wrong place at the wrong time, I am sure nothing bad was meant by the OP, just typing without thinking the implications through maybe ?

Big hug for you and thank heavens the kitty has survived

I haven't disagreed with anything you have said at all I agree whole heartidly

It's is completely down to the owners we have spoken about this on many occasions like when I got bitten on the face badly by a French mastiff. Not the dogs fault but the owners.

People need to do reaserch I mean I did 2 years worth before I got my boy.

You are so right Garys grading instinct is getting more with age I must say.He drives me crazy sometimes with it but I have learned to live with it as he's a protector.

I should have maybe explained better the lady I said about with the rabbit hadn't ripped it apart he had it in it's mouth bringing it to her.

I did say that the stories in this thread the owners have obviously taught there dogs to attack in that manner.

My mums dog years ago killed a cat in the back garden :0( why he did it we don't know my mum was besides herself really she was no reason for it and he was a softy had ample training walks and was very much loved.

Your completely right in what you have said and I was in no way disagreeing.x

I know you weren't disagreeing love and I do remember when you got bitten, it was up here wasn't it? Hope you have fully recovered now.

Ive just looked at the pics of this poor Lil cat it's devastating really it is.

Those poor dogs to having owners like that I mean those dogs lives are far from normal. It's very upsetting no dog is born vicious it's the owners.

Very sad story all round for poor fluffy and the dogs.
Makes me very angry indeed to see such negligence and total disregard to these animals involved.

I'm just looking at my boy now snoring his big head off dribbling all over my sofa thinking how lucky I am to have him and how lucky he is to have me.x

I know you weren't disagreeing love and I do remember when you got bitten, it was up here wasn't it? Hope you have fully recovered now.

Yes thank you I have a rather ugly looking nose now lol all bobbly and scared and a scar under my eye but what can you do

My mum said to me the other day oh love is that lots of big spots on your nose  I explained it's my scares to which she looked very embarassed indeed lol.x

Have you tried Microdermabrasion for the scars ? It might work

I think we are running the risk of hi-jacking the post now but it was nice chatting and hope that the scars settle soon. Give Gary a big hug from me and the boys, both also on a sofa each snoring away

ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1355928088.280807.jpgnow this is my face after being bitten by a dog.no fault of the dog what so ever but the fault of the owner.

I very nearly lost the end of my nose and could have lost my eye.

This is what can happen when owners are not responsible weather it be another animal or human it is sickening and I only feel sorry for that poor dog and the person or animal that has been hurt.

It would matter! No offence to u but Traveller's/ gypsies are well known for being violent and owning violent dogs. I'm not saying u are or anyone in ur community is but some are. I was just saying what the woman had said to me! If it was a black, ect Man I would of said as it describes what that person looks like!!!
I didn't say it was a traveller to offend I was pointing out what the woman said it was!!!!
