I have been offered a job, reasonable pay with hours to suit. I went in today lots of newly qualified girls, but i am the only one who can do intermate waxing. After waxing the lady in charge, i was asked if i would take all the therapists under my belt and teach them everything i now about waxing, from basic to brazillions. The girls are lovely just lack confidence, a bit like me till i met kim, but now i rule the wax and feel very confident were i have been looked at in a different light. I have been told they will teach me how to perfect nails. Now i also have my home salon which is a slow process but i hope with time i will get there. Just wondered what u guys thought of what i have been asked, especielly kim who is my icon x

I have every confidence in your ability Jen, but she wants a lot for £6.50 an hour. You paid out for training so how come you're doing it for her for nothing? Think about it carefully. xxx

If you've shelled out and trained with one of the best and you are confident in your capabilities then don't undersell yourself....

OK so your home business may be getting off the ground slower than you anticipated..but...be carefull not to take up the first opportunity you have for some "added" income.

Sometimes it can be best to take a back step from lower paid opportunities(if you can hold out finances of course) and seek out more lucrative ones.

never undersell yourself whatever.

you know you are worth more especially if you are confident with your capabilities.

give yourself a chance with your home salon. make sure you take every opportunity to promote yourself. give out your business cards everywhere you go. give them to friends to pass on. get yourself a website - in this day and age the www is where most people will google what they are looking for.

it will take time but it will be worth it in the end.

just ask yourself this - why does she want you to take these girls under your wing to teach them waxing for £6.50 a hour.

Thank you guys, you are alright. She literally put the red carpet out for me today, but pulls all her young girls down. My heart went out to them. One girl had gone on a trial, fresh out of college nervouse and she was ripped apart, told a toddler could do better and then told to leave. The poor girl, i tried to pick her up whilst she was doing my nails but she was just to nervouse to the point were she was nearly sick.
I went out with the girls into the precinct, they stood hovering at the door like two soldiers and i went and attacked lol every lady i could. Two ladies would not stop talikng to me for twenty min about perron rigot and that they had gone to london for a brazillion because they did not trust the local salons, but were really pleased to have met me and they would be booking in next week for faciel waxing as they were coloured ladies and would not go else were. Guess what i had none of my business cards only the salons i could have had two ladies coming to me at home and they were lovely.
The thing is i am in need of the money and that is why i thought to work in a salon a few days a week whilst i build my own business up, never expected she would want me to train them in everything i know about waxing. But in my head i thought i have paid good money for the knowledge i have been given, and yes she will train me in nails so i am more confident in them, but is she only out for what she can get and then get rid, or what

You have to do what you think is right given all your personel issues(finances etc) but also do what you are comfortable with.

What about this....since you paid good money to be the best in wax what if you come up with a contract with the owner of the salon that the wax business is yours and yours only. All income from waxing belongs to you and you can rent a booth or room. All other services she is wanting you to perform in her salon can be done on a commission basis. Think about this......she is wanting you to teach ALL these other girls how to wax, but you are the only one to receive teaching in nails. Think about the client to service provider ratio on that! Doesn't seem right. You say you are needing the money. And part of making money is being a good business woman. Put your business woman face on when talking to this woman and see if maybe you guys can come up with a more reasonable and fair way for you work there. DON'T let her take advantage of you cause she knows you need the money too!
