Sandi's thread about the "Open toed shoe pledge" got me thinking, what is it about feet that so many nail therapists don't like ?

http://www.thenailgeek.com/chit-chat/34319-open-toed-shoe-pledge.html

I am a natural nail care specialist and love feet and the "challenges" that they present. There is nothing more rewarding for me to turn a manky looking pair of feet into some really good looking pampered ones and seeing clients over the moon with them.

So what is the psychology behind it, why do you either love or hate doing feet ?

I just dont like toes to be honest I think they look funny. But I wouldn't go as far as to refuse a client that asked for a pedicure..

Bleach sounds good lmao,i agree though, they do look funny, don't know why though i can't explain !?!?!?

First thing I do when feet come out of hot, tight shoes is give them a spray with an antiseptic spray. I agree some feet are ugly but my god so are some hands!
I dont mind feet at all, at least I know they havent been up to all sorts of unsavory behaviour, unlike fingers!

I was put off feet a few years ago when I had an elderly lady called and wanted an appointment there and then - when she arrived and removed her shoes, her toes were bleeding - she had slightly claw toes and when she had tried to cut them she had cut skin. I suggested that she should consult her doctor and get a referral to a chiropodist. She did not take this too kindly and as I was relatively new to the business I was a bit upset after she left, wondering if I had done the right thing.

I dont have the correct set up for doing pedicures and find it quite uncomfortable - possibly due to my tummy getting in the way LOL.

I will paint toes if asked by my existing clients.

I used to be really scared of feet, mine are so diddy and everyone else's big clodhoppers used to make my stomach churn! I couldn't look at them let alone touch them! Then there was a thread on here one day and Mum said something, can't remember what, but it just helped me to see feet in a different way. I thought I cannot call myself a nail tech and not do pedicures. So I booked myself on a course with LCN, and just decided that I just had to get on and do it. Now I don't bat an eyelid - well most of the time, some people think it's okay to stick their dirt ground toes in your face ewww!!

Although I don't like thick toenails, I really don't mind feet.

The look of pleasure on a clients face when they look at their freshly polished toes is what I love about it :)

i personally dont mind them at all...i agree they are a challange...im happy to do feet...and my own are fab..lol i hava thing about my own feet, my toes spread real wide and my bf calls me monkey foot..haha i can drink a glass of wine with my feet..lol so why not have them perfectly pedicured..lol

My dislike of pedicures is nothing to do with the feet just that I have yet to find a position to sit in that doesnt leave me with a bad back and sore knees...I have tried a chair, low stool, pedi stool with leg rest for client and sitting on the floor.....if I could afford a proper pedicure chair with internal foot bath it would be great but I cant and probably wouldnt have the space needed for one anyway....so I would rather not do them at all as I suffer so much afterwards.

Have any of you tried doing one with the client resting on a treatment couch and doing the pedicure that way after the initial foot soak stage????? If so how did you get on doing it that way?????

The first pedicure I did - I felt queezy but when I saw the transformation it really encouraged me to do more.

I love taking care of my feet.

I would say that they are some of the main parts of the body and people just neglect them so much! WHY?

i dont mind feet, BUT had a lady the other day for gel on toes OMG feet wreaked .

WHY wouldnt you clean them if you new thats the treatment you were going for?

i even had to go to the trouble of nipping to the loo squirting perfume on my fingers and wiping it under my nostrils or i swear i would have boffed.

YEUK:eek:

I don't mind feet, love the new improved look when I've done them, lol. Can be a sense of achievement sometimes!!:)

Yes:!: this is how I do mine, except for very old fragile ladies. The client sits in a normal chair and soaks. Then I dry their feet and up they go onto my treatment couch (we call it an esthetics table) and I am sitting comfortable with my back supported and my feet flat on the floor. They are comfortable and many times fall asleep. It is great and the clients really like it. The footbath and sink are within reach and I have a small rolling trolley to keep all my supplies on that I can keep near or far. You should try this. It is great.:!:

I always used to detest feet, didn't matter whose they were, and god help anyone if they touched my feet lol
I managed to get over my own feet been touched by easing myself into having pedicures done, I warned the therapist that there was a high chance she could get a foot up her left nostril if she tickled me
I gained trust in her as she had a firm hold on my toes/feet and i actually began to enjoy my pedicures.
One of my friends has gorgeous feet, they look perfect, as if they should be on a magazine cover...
I asked her if she'd let me do a Brisa overlay on her toes so I could practice touching other peoples feet, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... I practiced on her a bit more and i seem to have gotten over my foot phobia :D
