Ok so this is my first year having the beauty room and haven't had a January yet. Im worrying because i think it's going to be very quiet am i right or wrong? and when does it pick back up again?

I find my januarys are busy because of my christmas break and all my regulars booking in.
I december I get my ladies to book right through december, because I get so busy, then I say to them, 'Don't forget your '+ one'. This being the bookings for their christmas treatments and the '+ one' takes them through to January. This is a good way to get your bookings. I have done it this way from the beginning, even if it wasn't busy. It makes you look busy and makes the bookings come in.
If you're new, think of a promotion in January...something like a reduction on all spa manicures if booked now for january.
Good luck!! xxx

I have given a voucher to my clients for christmas to only be used in january on anything over £20, I opened my salon last january and it was a busy busy month for me...... you find people get christmas money and want to use that to treat themselves

phew this is a relief. Fingers crossed im busy in january as well then

I really push detox style treatments, offer one "wow" treatment and you will have people wanting to use their vouchers too.

Have sold a few vouchers but not as many as last year, but then again, its still nearly a week left.

the hairdressers I work above say that January is usually busy but February is quiet so we've come up with some ideas to try and generate business.

Biggest surprise of my career was my first January. I was all set for a really quiet time and it was really, really busy! Has been the same ever since so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Try to build regular clients, keep them happy without letting them walk all over you and you will be fine every month of the year. :)

Oooh that sounds good. Fingers crossed im busy in january. I really need the extra money at the mo

Yeh christmas money!! Its usualy younger people who have that to spend, I never thaught of that when they go to the sales with money why cant they come and spend it with us! Especialy as they all go out spending money on newyears costumes etc they can be that skint!!! That has just cheered me up as I was quiet last January but had only been open three months. xxx

Like Hippy Chick I promote my detox body envelopments for the new year, as well as facials to brighten the skin (the poor diet & lack of exercise combined with the cold & central heating often take their toll at yule).

The secret is to not only promote the benefits of the treatment but to be offering your December clients "something to look forward to in January" as most people feel a bit down after going back to work.

January is usually ok for therapists. This year our therapists have been really quiet for Xmas. The hair has picked up all be it late. My guess is theople have prioritised having their hair done, and put off their beauty treatments till Jan. My advice is to not jump in too quick with too many special offers in Jan, try and guage first how its gonna be. If it's bad then do a stonker that undercuts your rivals, and shout loud about it.

I don't do special offers with money off, I do special treatments and charge the same or slightly more, they are getting a combination of treatments that are not usually on my treatment menu.

My christmas specials didnt go down well this year, but I find that people want them once they've had their gift vouchers.

I found my xmas specials didn't go down really well either. I had more one off treatments like nails booked in. Didn't have many people book more than one treatment

Well Nikki, my christmas is now over - salon wise. I've got an Indonesian massage with mande lulur ritual as a special for Dec 29th for 90 minutes which 2 have booked and I have one more space.

Now I've got to think January treatments!

We find that people are still in 'spending mode' in January, the credit card bills haven't arrived yet either!

February is usually the quieter month, however it's only really when you employ a lot of staff who will have to be paid anyway that you need to think seriously about 'offers'.

February is also a great month for spring cleaning and Planning the Year Ahead!
