hi there
dont often come on nail geeks - im more of a skin geek (makeup artist)
i was thinking about introducing cnd natural nail manicure as an add on service, and just wondered what you thought?
do you get many brides asking for manicures, or do they all seem to want nail extensions etc .. didnt want to go down that route really, but just thought a nice manicure the day before or a series of manicures in the lead up to the wedding would be a great add on service
would appreciate any feedback or advice on the above really
many thanks

Generally from my experience, when it comes to weddings, everything has to be PERFECT right down to the very last detail, including the brides nails. I've seen about 95% of brides usually go for extensions (especially if they have short nails to begin with), as they want their nails to be just as beautiful as the rest of them will be that day. I'm sure there are plenty of women who would prefer a simple manicure. I'm just talking from my own personal experiences.

I agree with Melissa. Most of the brides I've done, with a couple of exceptions, all decided to have extentions or NNO (of gel in my case). They like the perfect look and not having to worry about polish chipping, etc.

You mentioned that you're a skin geek rather than a nail geek, so if you're planning on doing some more training and you feel you'll have more clients with l&p or gel rather than natural manicure, why not take that course as well? The more you can offer clients the more reason they have to come back to YOU.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.:)

When I was a bride last year, I had grown my Nails and went for a french manicure. I think many will prefer something natural whether it be a french manicure or Nail extensions.

Permanent French enhancements or a French manicure for most brides that come to me.

They usually have a spa pedicure too and perhaps gel toes. Remind them that their toes need attention too particularly if they are going on honeymoon. They want to look the best they can from top to toe so usually have both done.

Oh and then there is the calming therapy session which I include in my price.

I would tend to agree...most brides wind up choosing enhancements. But I have had plenty of brides in the past just want their own nails to look good. They either work at a place where enhancements are not allowed, like a hospital, don't have the money or just are smart and realize it's one day and they will have to maintain the enhancements afterward :p But if you offer manicures to brides, what makes you think your other clients wouldn't also love this service? Who doesn't love a manicure? :)

thanks for the replies .. lots of food for thought there!
really not sure whether to train in mani/pedicure or eyelash extensions - cant afford both at the moment, but im guessing that the eyelashes would be more popular for brides
thanks anyway!

When I got married, I wish I knew about gel polish. Yes, brides want their nails perfect for their big day, but most go on their honeymoon immediately after, right? That means, they'll want beautiful nails to last a week or longer. If they do not want tips and have been growing their nails for the big day, I would highly recommend a gel overlay (pink and white or color). The color WILL NOT chip and it will give their nails a little added strength, so NO BREAKAGE. Also, this can be done on fingers and toes - for those beachy honeymoons. A bride will LOVE you for it and will probably come back to you.

For more ideas on how to use gels on fingers and toes, you can go to the NSI website.
