Hi skin people, just popped over from nails to ask you a q

Any advice on dry skin around my eyes, they seem to be getting rapidly old looking in the past year. I'm 44 years old, so I know they are going to be ageing, but I find they are really dry even though I use eye creams.

Also my eyeshadow isn't sitting as well as it used too. Sometimes they feel a little puffed, then the next day the skin is flaky as if I have had a reaction to something.

Any advice would be gratefully received x

Hi Marion
A very gentle facial exfoliator would probably help to remove the dryness but make sure you use a very gentle one that isn;t too abrasive. I tend to mix an exfoliator with a bit of cleanser to make it more gentle, and only exfoliate the delicate eye area no more than once a week. You could use an eye mask which you leave on for 10-15 mins twice a week which will help to hydrate the skin and then apply your eye cream. Don't forget to use morning and at night. Massaging in gently but for a few minutes will help drain away any retained water and improve the circulation around the eye helping to prevent eye cream building up. With eye creams only use a grain of salt size for each eye otherwise you can build up too much product, but regular massage will help alleviate puffiness. Hope this helps xx

Thanks, that's very helpful. I have some dermalogica daily exfoliant, I will use that near to my eyes

that sounds like a sensitivity/ mild allergy to something. you should speak to your gp before you put anything else on them. just to be on the safe side.

The eye area should be avoided with this. Try Dermalogica total eye care.
Are the eyes scaly or itchy?
I suffer with eczema around the eyes at times and I find a OTC product from the chemist called Unguentum is absolutely fab to take any dry skin away.
It's totally non irritating.
Use a base foundation for the eyes before applying the eyeshadown. This will help it last longer and sit nicer.
Don't over use any eye products as this can cause puffiness. When using eye make up remover ensure to remove any residue as again this can cause puffiness plus irritate the eyes. Hth

Hi there, I'm 48 and last September returned to college and found out so many things about the way our skin changes as we get past the big 40. For myself I found that suddenly the skin care I had been using, been more than happy with for the last 20 years was letting me down. Many reasons, skin gets thinner as the collagen production slows down, so sun damage becomes much more of a problem. Manufactures changing the recipe of our make-up cleansers etc.
So it's probably time you had your face mapping done (again?) Funny thing for me personally, my collage changed from dermalogica to eve taylor, we use the products on each other before they let us loose on the public and I've changed right along with them, my skin hasn't looked or felt this good in years, I'm not pushing that make on you (but I do rate them highly) but I do recommend booking in with a specialist for a fresh look at your skin. hth.

Fantastic advice from everyone. Thanks
My eyes were scaly, but I used a facial scrub on them, and put on good ole fashioned ponds cold cream, they were greasy all day, but felt a lot better. They seem a lot smoother now, I think I must have rubbed an irritant on them and this is what made them swollen and scaly.
I'm going to check the eve Taylor products next.. Time to spend some money on myself I think
