:| I have been doing acrylics for the past 6 months and so far only have one client that i seem to have problems with, her nail bed is very small and arched and the acrylic seems to always lift at the sides (she also works in a bar so has her hands in water a lot). I always find it difficult to get rid of the fill line on her nails (never have a problem with other clients). Today she came in with a glitter polish on, i removed it and then refilled as per normal but noticed after that she had a yellow patch on two of her nails - i've never had this before with any client and now I'm really worried I've done something wrong! Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

can you clarify on the yellow spots? were they discolored all the way through or were you able to file them off? im not sure what anything you couldve done would cause yellow spots on just two fingers. it may be stains from the polish she was using, did she use a base cost? did you use a top coat or just buffed? as for your lifting problem, all the advice I can offer is practice makes (almost) perfect! we've all had lift issues, especially in the beginning but no worries. you'll get there. you'll find what works and what doesn't, you'll just need to find your way, and you will! you may want to advise her to try to wear kitchen gloves if she's going to have her hands in water constantly, especially if she's using cleaners and detergents. however in my opinion 90% of lifting comes from the techs end especially during prep, so be sure to use system specific prep techniques and remember practice practice practice!

thanks for they reply, they weren't discoloured all the way through to the natural nail and she didn't use a base coat. I used a top coat today when I did them. thanks so much for the advice, much appreciated!!

Were the yellow spots 'on top' of the acrylic or 'underneath' on the nail bed?

Were they in the same area as the lifted product, before you started working on her nails?

if they weren't discolored through to the natural nail and you didn't do anything out of the ordinary to them, I think its safe to say it was probably not something on your end, especially if it was just 2 nails. it sounds like she might be hard on her enhancements, next time I would take a few extra minutes to review care instructions with her, definitely suggest the gloves and make sure she uses cuticle oil daily (this is always a great opportunity to retail to your clients especially if you stress that daily oiling will help pervent lifting, however if I have a stubborn client who won't buy it, I GIVE them a small bottle free of charge; in the long run it will save you money by keeping your client happier with less lifting and save you time by promoting easier fills and less repairs) and if she's going to be painting her enhancements, advise her to use a basecoat to prevent discoloration. I hope this helps!:)
