In a world of my own....
Hi Geeks

Would appreciate a bit of advice here..... I am a skin geek (spray tanning) and because working with the tan was ruining my own nails (which are quite weak) I have being having acrylic nails done by a client who is a very good reputable nail technician and I LOVE them...

This is about my fourth or fifth time getting them done but each time the nails are falling off (one by one) earlier and earlier. One nail fell off after 10 days... Nail technician seems a bit baffled and thinks that maybe I will have to go with gels next time (next Friday).

What would the reason for this?

Would love to hear your opinion.

thanks:hug:

Hi, can you explain what you mean by "falling off"...do you mean like you just stand up and the nail falls to the floor....or is something else happening to the nails..?

Yes literally the nail falls off... or I suddenly notice it is gone...

Mmmmm just i never knew of a nail to just drop of...its either bashed, banged, picked or has lifted to the degree that it comes away from the nail...and even then it often needs a little help.

The best thing i can advise is that you go back to her as soon as you get problems...so she can ***** whats going on....she should be able to know just by looking at your nail plate if the enhancement wasn't properly adhered or has come off another way.

Without knowing more from her side (application and prep) or seeing the nails its impossible to say what the problem is.

Are they oming off in one piece, whole? Is this happening after a few rebalances or on brand new nails too?

If it's the former I would suggest that it's pocket lifting caused by the product on the nail becoming too thick over time.

yes, they are coming off whole and I have had them refilled a few times...they were only brand new the first time (and lasted the standard length of time) so it is with the refilling that they are falling off... should I get brand new nails each time maybe??

I wouldn't go to those lengths, it would be more expensive for you as a client! Don't want to sound rude, but maybe your tech needs to revisit her rebalancing prep and application......I know, I have been there and it took me a long time to get to the bottom of it as no-one could comprehend nails coming off whole!

Prior to your nails coming off, do they start to look cloudy in the middle, no lifting at the side walls and eponychium?

Just thought I better add for clarity, that the nails I have seen which come off whole do need a bit of a nudge, they don't just fall off. If the pocket lifting is severe a small knock will be enough to take it off.

Sometimes there might be a slight lifting but mainly I look down and a nail has gone! At the moment I have one nail gone (last saturday) and another nail with the white tip is missing (Sunday)....did not feel either going...nails were refilled less than two weeks ago...

Nail technician is suggesting gel nails... I really do not have a clue...as she is also a client of mine it is a bit 'awkward'...

Just because nails have been maintained, does not make them immune to breakage. I'm still unsure whether you have broken some or they have just fallen off.

Nail enhancments are not REAL and although stronger than your own natural nails you should not have unrealistic expectations.

You should be able to expect the nails to last well between 2-3 weekly appointments but not expect never to break one.

The reason your technician is suggesting a change is that some people are more chemically compatible with gel then L&P and visa versa. It is worth trying a differnt ystem to see if this is the case with you.
