Okay, so I have a little spa. I wont be totally on my own...I have one nail tech who will still be around. BUT - I had to let a girl go a little while ago- who was making great money with me but refused to do anything (such as her laundry or clean up - I gave her a choice to leave or help more). Anyways, I hired another girl. WELL...since hiring this girl I have had 7 complaints about her, how she does things - horrible manicure, bad waxing etc. Well, today is the last straw. TWO complaints. Thing that sucks is I dont do brazillians or bikinis. Here, you do waxing in two stages (the courses) and I havent taken the second course which is those two. SO I will lose out on those clients. Plus, part of the deal when she started was she needed to bring in her own clients. She has brought in two - in two months. The rest have been the ones I have been too busy to do, or ones from my advertising. ALSO, i have told her she has to wear a smock (some of you might remember me talking about that when I first hired her - was debating if I should). Well she was arguing with me yesturday about it. ALSO, it is my policy at MY SPA to wear gloves when doing pedicures and waxing. Well she REFUSES and argued with me about it yesturday while I was reminding her to wear a smock. I have caught her numberous times not even wearing shoes OR SOCKS! It is disgusting! UGH!

My problem with the whole thing is we live in a small town with about 10 000 and I am always worried about these people bad mouthing the place. I have about quadroupled the business from when I bought it in Nov. though so at least that is good.

SORRY you guys I just really needed to vent. I am going in there in about half an hour. I actually took the mornings off this week and this upcoming weekend off for a break because I have been working 14 hour days. hmmm...maybe that wont be happening now!

Thanks for the listening ears!

start advertising for another therapist.

issue her with a written warning. also put down how she needs to improve, give a review date, and if she hasn't improved issue her 2nd written warning.

YOU ARE THE BOSS! ITS YOUR BUSINESS! DON'T LET HER RUIN IT.

You think I should issue her a warning? I was just going to let her go because of all this. She had three months probation starting Feb, so I can still let her go without warnings. I just dont think warnings will help as I have spoken to her about all this stuff and she just argues - definately doesnt take construtive critism. She just says things like I went to school to do this stuff and I know I am doing it right. Yet, a client comes in because her manicure looks horrible and her paint is all bumpy - ew!

I have had a few waxing complaints - told her how we do it, she still did it her way, had another complaint...confronted her again, still did it her way....discussed with her one more time - havent had a complaint in last week about it since then.

Manicure, lady came in yesturday to complain. Worker was there and told the lady it looked fine. Then my other employee called me and said that same lady was in twice today because she hated the job and wanted it redone (which I am going to call her and tell her to come in and I will redo it).

Also, was doing a manicure today and my employee (who is my sister by the way) called me and said the client kept complaining she was hurting her - how the h$ll do you hurt someone seriously that is ridiculous). My sister said the client asked my sister to please finish it. Also the employee was ARGUING with the client saying she went to school for this and knows what she is doing. My sister said the employee was all flabergasted and dropping stuff, even dropped a whole bottle of polish and some went on the clients purse.

The other day - first time I left employee to lock up because she had two more pedis to do. Well I asked her to please clean and refill the paraffin tub as we had more clients in the morning. THANK god I went in and checked that night because she didnt...so we would have had NO paraffin for the first client the next day.

well don't know what the 'law' is, but if she is within her probationary period, when she comes in, hand her wages to the end of the week, and escort her off the building once she's gathered all of her belongings.

don't withhold her pay.

In this country, when you get laid off at a moments notice, you get escorted to your workspace to collect your belongings and escorted off the premises, but you get your money.

Get rid of her quick! When you first start a job, if you're in your probationary period especially, you should be trying to make the best possible impression. If she's behaving like this NOW, what on earth will she be like six months down the line? This is YOUR business and you run it in the way you see fit. If she doesn't want to work to your standards and is actually arguing with you - showing no respect for you and your position as her employer - then she is going to cause nothing but trouble.

Totally agree. Get rid asap. You don't want a bad apple like her upsetting the applecart.

It's never easy though dismissing somebody. I've done it loads of times now but I still stew about it for ages beforehand.

Good luck with it all

OMG!

Another vote for get rid but do what you have to do legally written warnings etc..... actually not sure you even have to do this if she is in a probationary period...even better for you. I have hired and fired in a diferent field and it is never easy but when someone more or less deserves it they only have themselves to blame, so don't feel too bad about it all if it comes to this.

It is your salon and she sounds as if she is doing you more harm than good.

know what - if someone came to me today and wanted to buy my business I would sell it! Ugh, this week has been a nightmare! I havent let her go yet because we had so many appointments this week and I havent been feeling good. Anyways, today was the last straw and I am letting her go - I just have to get up the guts to do it!

I am going to give her the pay she is entitled to and show her out. I am not looking forward to it. I went to talk to her about yet ANOTHER complaint I got about her today and she FREAKED out! I was about to let her go then, but a client walked in and I could just imagine what it would have been like!

What a nightmare! The last girl I let go is being really immature and saying bad things about the spa...and I know this girl will too - honestly they are kinda trashy, but I thought it would be a bit different at work...DUH!!!!!

Anyways, I guess I made the stupid mistakes and now I have to pay for it! I am now trying to sell because I honestly cant handle all this - so keep your fingers crossed for me!~

Hope it goes ok hun.

Maybe once you get rid of her you will feel different.

I seriously wouldn't worry about a young girl being listened to when badmouthing the salon. Advise her that if she does this you will also contact other salons in the area and brief them about her!

Get rid of her and although you'll have to work around the clock again, you won't have the complaints, employee's bad attitude and a bad salon atmosphere to deal with.
Good Luck

Oh my god, ATTITUDE!! the girl has no respect for you or the business, let her go. You have gave her up teen warnings and all you get back is attitude. Sorry if you were me, the girl would be gone a long time ago. Attitude, and sloppyness is two things I cant stand regarding personal and business issues.

Please for the sake of your business, let her go, you have covered your back by speaking to her, so there should be no come back.

It takes a very long time to establish a business, and minutes to break a business.

has anything else hapened?
i think you should defo let her go, imagine what youl feel like in a years time if u dont.
dont worry about thm badmouthing the sa most people can c thro that
x

I havent been able to update because I have had the flu :( First time I have ever had to miss work - nice timing! Anyways, I have decided that I am letting her go next week. I have only booked her with 3 clients this whole week - but they are to do double pedicures with me - then I have my sister in law coming up for the summer to help who is MUCh more professional - plus we will work opposite hours so we wont get sick of each other!

Thanks for all the listening ears you guys! I really appreciate it, and definately needed it - if it werent for you guys I would have lost it!

Good luck it will work out for the best.

If this can be done, why dont you and your sister in law run the business.
