hi geeks

needing yet somemore advice please!

since starting mobile spray tanning i have found it sloooow going in my area! when i first started i had cards done put them in shops and some hairdressers i have other mobile friends in hairdressing and waxing that have some of my cards. i live in the far south east so when trying some of the online advertising its always london based so dont get much from that. i have a room at a local leisure centre on a monday night but even that hasnt picked up! Dont get me wrong i have a few regulars but not enough to keep me going! i have 2 children and a part time job but would love to earn some extra cash and would really like to make a go of it with this year with the spring and summer comin up. Any good ideas for advertising shall i invest in some leaflets and do door to door does it pay to advertise in local papers and when would it be a good time to do it as with all this snow around at the mo not everyone is in the mood to get naked to have a spray tan.

sorry to carp on but would love to hear ur ideas. maby thanks in advance  x

It is just the time of year, I know we had lots of snow here lol.

You could have loyalty cards, recommend a friend discount, 1/2 price top up?

It will pick up

It isnt always an over night success when you start out in any new venture
the best advertisement is the finished article THE TAN !! and thats what you need to be seen by potential customers
Not a card or an add in the local rag or a leaflet posted through a door of who knows ? a middle aged asian man ?
One of our most successfull mobile girls Is a marketing genius :lol: we have asked her to come and work for us but she s holding out for the right deal !! lol
She buys a litre of tan for the cost of a local add from us that gives her at least 20 tans from a litre ,she attends and gives out free tans at every charity event she can, school fates, football club fund raising, whatever :)
Every tan she does she gives the reciepetant a few business cards to pass on to friends
she gives barmaids ,hair dressers, even the local female community support officer a free tan !
they are a walking advertisement for her services and our tan
she buys at least 6 litres a month and up to ten in the summer :eek:
thats 120 tans minimum PCM she gives away less than 20 tans to her walking advertisements
she also stands in the town centre wearing our tan with leaflets and hands them to her target audience, rather than leaflet drops
Its all about networking find salons that dont offer tanning and offering them a freebie for refferals and in return you refer them for waxing ,hair ,nails ,ect there honestly is a lot of fun and money to be made from spray tanning but it wont fall from the trees as in any business you need to push your self HTH

I'm in Kent and I have been doing spary tanning for a year now and it is really slow and seasonal, but having said that I know other therapists who are about 20 miles away from me and always busy.

I have tried leaflet dopping etc and it has not worked and thats not because there seems to be a lot of others offering it around me either. I honestly just think it is seasonal and judging from other therapists your clientelle as well. Spray tanning seems a lot more popular around here with younger people especially those that club etc. so maybe you could try to target that market if possible?

Good luck

Hi, Im down in Ramsgate ( are you near ? ) and its very hard at the moment - especially with local salons offering tans for a lot less money ( most £10 ) . I can't afford being mobile to drop my prices that low so can't get much new business and rely on regulars who like eve appointments.

Your marketing needs to be targeted. As others have said there is little point to random leaflet dropping. Use your energies to market to your target client base. Look up local dance schools, body building clubs, ladies networking groups and keep plugging away at it. The trick is in being a constant reminder in people's minds, not just a one off. It can take about 7 contacts with a potential client before they actually transact with you.
If there isn't a ladies networking group in your area, start one!
