Hello
Does anyone have experience advertising either eyelashes or spray tanning on Yell.com? Im about to sign up for a year so people can link to my website and was wondering if I will bring in much work? Am doing well so far with facebook alone, but need more work, more money.

Your comments are hugely appreciated :)

Thanks guys
x

I am listed on the free one. To be honest I wont pay to advertise online. There are so many free directories you can get listed on. I'd rather save my money and put an advert in my local advertising book xxx

I paid to advertise for a month to see what response i would get. Whenever i typed anything into ggogle relating to my business, the free listings i had signed up to, came up higher in google than yell.com!
I wouldn't waste your money! I have just the free listing now.
Get on as many free listing sites as you can and get a website if you haven't already :)

Hi I got a call from them just as I had started out with mobile spray tanning and pay nearly £400 for the year, I would say definitely do not do it in 3 months I have only had 1 phonecall from it and the rest were companies trying to sell to me hth

Oh I had this call yesterday and no way was I going with them again,,,,,, I paid over £400 for an ad in there yellow pages and not one person,,,,, they are getting ride of free ad's,,,,, they'll try anything to get you,,, the sale's man was trying to tell me that when you google beauty salon's in my area I don't come up,,,,,, I was on the laptop at the time and googles myself and it came on on the 1st page,,,,, not many people use these search engine there's no need to.

hi, iv been with yell for 8 years because all the other salons in town are and i felt i had to but iv just ended my contract. i offer several treatments in my salon from tanning to toning to beauty but also sunbeds and unless i paid for 2 catagories tanning and beauty i dont show in there keyword searches which is stupid. i also got put in wrong catagory in yellow pages, they put me in sauna and still charged me £400. total waist of money. iv done some research and all my customers find me on google anyway which is free so i wont be paying yell ever again.

when myself and my husband set up our business (non beauty related) we were advised my our business advisor not to go with yell as the only people they were good for were tradesmen!

I also have paid £400 for the last 2 years and have cancelled my contract in 2years I've only ever had 5 people from them. I've gone for the free listing and find advertising in local papers and magazines much more profitable the best though is word of mouth completely free lol.

Its terrible you wont get any jobs through i know serveral people including myself that have wasted over £250 on it ! ! ! ! your much better having your website and posting it on free sites like gumtree etc - an watch the jobs roll in !xxxx

I see some of the people answered have there websites on there signiture ,how do you get a website do you pay a company to do them or is there somewhere i could make my own ?x

Yeah always best sticking to free listings and the more you're on the higher you will rate!

Here's a list of websites where you can advertise your business for free...

FreeIndex - The free UK business directory
Hot Frog - Your UK Business Directory
Jobs, Cars, Property, Free Classifieds and More - Gumtree.com
Free business listing, free advertising - online UK business directory
London Reviews, London Top Restaurants, Pubs, Shopping, Nightlife, Services and More | Tipped
Scoot | Scoot Home - UK Business Finder
Free UK Business Directory - Join Free, Free SMS, Free Listings, Ratings & Reviews
London Restaurants, Dentists, Pubs, Beauty Salons, Doctors
etc...

Then there's Google Local Business Centre where you can submit your details for free and have it come up on the map at the top of the page on Google when someone searches for a business in your area... http://www.google.co.uk/local/add/businessCenter

As for websites... there are a lot of options out there... it depends if you want to do your own or pay someone to do it for you... maybe use the search option on here to do a search for the many website threads as that should give you a better idea...

Thankyou everyone for your feedback x
