Approximately how many cell layers thick is the average nail plate?

Ok so when removing the shine from the nail plate during prep , how many layers, (approximately) is removed?

Hopefully as few as possible

True, true, but there must be a certain amount of layers removed, to remove the surface shine from the nail plate.

What do you think?

during a demo at nsi they tell you 3 - 5 layers

It depends on your technique and the grit abrasive you use.

A 240 grit abrasive used in the direction of the natural nail lightly will remove (without going over the same patch repeatidly) will remove 2-3 layers (2-3%)

Where as a 100 grit used in a cross filing motion can take up to 25 - 30 layers... getting down into the soft spongy inner core of the nail plate. This is often done to give inferior bonding product the opportunity to adhere... Pity about the poor nail plate ;)

Too add toe nails have an average of 150 layers. Much thicker
