Hi all,

I'm currently doing my Beauty level 2 at college and one of my nail clients has asked about the bags under her eyes. Is there anything she can do about them, any creams that work well in this area? She is at 70 a more mature client and has, other than this problem, no other issues with her skin.

Hi - generally bags under eyes are a genetic thing & can't be rid of but it is possible to reduce puffiness somewhat. Is she using a particular product range at the mo?

No, I don't think she has a specific range.

Bless her, she has been to have laser eye treatment so she doesn't need glasses anymore but her husband told her that WITH her glasses, the bags under her eyes were not so noticeable.

Is there anything you would recommend?

First: Divorce the husband.

Is the area puffy, as well as baggy?

I'm 40 and I have terrible bags under my eyes and was seriously considering surgery. I recently had a Decleor Vital Eyes facial and it made an amazing difference! I'm a bit of a sceptic so took a pic before I went. Was really pleased with the results and am using their Prolegene eye cream too!

It is puffy too, DPoppy.

She cant divorce him, he pays for me to do her nails! I'd be out of a job :wink2:

I would first find out whether she has been taking moisturiser too close to the eye. Using an eye serum or gel patted gently around the orbital bone will help. She will also benefit from your gentle massaging of the area, without stretching the skin.

I'm not letting that husband off the hook though. She should tell him that he has to pay for very expensive, specialist work from you. Then split the profit with her!

I have asked about the moisturiser and it could be that this is the problem. Also the use of an eye cream that a lot of older women seem to think they must use, whether they actually need it or not. I did show her a little draining massage motion to use herself also, so I will check whether she reports any improvement.

Her husband treated her to some Eyeslices which she liked so I might encourage her to get some more of those.

Thanks for your help. I'll mention the specialist work, I'm sure that would include a healthy lunch (for both of us), don't you think?

If the puffiness comes and goes especially worse in the morning then it will be fluid.Sleeping flat, bad diet, alcohol poor circulation, just being older can all be causes as well as some serious problems like liver and kidney function especially if dark.
If they are there permanantly then it is probably fat pockets so not much can be done apart from surgery.

Thanks Gillian, I will question her on this too. I know she has a very good diet, so that wont be a problem.

Problem with fluid coming and going to an ageing eye area is that it stretches the skin and can leave wrinkling and sagging so it is limited the help you can offer.
