I am interested in offering permant hair removal, but not sure which method/ system would be best to offer.

Could any fellow geeks please recommend a system they use that really does permantly remove hair.

Hi there, I suppose you could say that as the only permanent method recognised by the BMA is electrolysis you could say the choice is easy. However a lot of folks out there have had good results with IPL and laser systems. As someone who has done a lot of electrolysis I often think about taking it up again. However I do wonder what is around the corner. I see VPL variable pulse light is now available, which caters for all skin types and colours! eliminating one of the main sticking points with light treatments.

I think I would do lots of research here before commitment but it also depends on your set up and budget. Electrolysis is a good option but I have noted that although over the years it has declined it is still very popular with some.

I believe that electrlysis is the best permanent method but laser is a close second. I would say that laser is maybe better for large areas.

I offer electrolysis (Sterex Blend), but think both have their place. I wouldn't dream of tackling legs for example with electrolysis...can you imagine! However, it is excellent for facial hair, and I have also treated some people who originally had laser but had hairs left that didn't respond to it.

Thank you all for your replies.
I really would like to train in some form of laser but not sure which machiene/ method is the best.
Does any 100% garantee permanent hair removal?
I want to be able to treat larger areas ie, legs & bikini so electrolysis wouldnt be suitable.

What system of laser do you geeks offer?
What is your sucess rate?

xx

Hiya,

electrolysis..this is a great treatment if the technician who is treating you is good at what they do.
Ive had it done for many years and it's never got rid of my hairs.

IPL/laser is a hair reduction programme..and is not permanent, hair can grow back due to hormone change, child birth, weight gain, age etc etc

IPL, would be a better treatment to offer your clients or for yourself. it also can rejuvenate the skin.

This kind of thing is always saddening to hear! It's like when people say they don't want to have waxing as the last time they had it they bruised & you have to explain it was the waxer not the waxing!

I've permanently cleared lips, chins & the odd bikini line in between 6 to 8 months easily. I even cleared a whole beard on a pre-op transexual in the late 90's! Like all things it's so operator dependent.

Hi Martin,

This is why i say a good tech for electrolasis, some are so bad and don't do the job as well as others. You must be good at what you do. keep up the good work, i wish you had worked on me when i needed it.

I agree wholeheartedly with you - some are just awful! I think the problem was that electrolysis used to be compulsory & a lot of people were rubbish at it & didn't like doing it, but still qualified!
