What is it that makes the C - Curve....curve?....Wide Matrix, narrow finger?

Heredity and ethnicity. Nail shape is directly inherited and is cultural; it is not decided in the matrix.

ok but what is it that actually makes it curve though? When the nail starts growing what makes it decide to grow in a curve and not flat out...is the matrix flat or does it curve? Maybe im thinking to hard !

It is the nail bed that is curved and the cells produced in the Matrix naturally grow into the derma-grooves of the bed. The epidermis attached to the underside of the nail cells is shaped in 'rails' and these rails grow into the corresponding 'grooves' of the dermis layer on the surface of the nail bed. The nail is pulled along that path and takes on the shape of the bed which I presume is influenced by the shape of the bone beneath.
