I mostly do nno with calgel at the moment. I have done a few sets of extensions with the white calgel tips, however, I want to use the naturel tips as the well area is slightly larger, and i have been informed that these are stronger.

For my french, I use the competition white for the smile line, with the clear gel over the top, no other colour.

Will this still be ok to do this on the naturel colour tips, or will the colour of the tip shine through, iykwim. Does this even make sense??

I will be phoning calgel on monday but its only saturday and I would like to know! Impatient I know! :)

Thanks in advance x

Hi,

No it's fine to use the natural tips and paint the french on, just be careful when placing the tip not to get air bubbles from the glue and how you blend the tip as sometimes you can still see it through the gel if not done properly which you can hide if you do pink (43) and comp white but if your using clear over the white gel you will see it through, so just make sure you blend well!!

calgel customer service is great though so any help you need they'll give you!

thanks for the quick reply! I knew it wouldnt be as straight forward as the frech tips, darn! do you think the blending files from calgel are the best to use? or do you use any? I found i can blend quicker if i use a white block, is that ok to do though?

I don't use any of calgels files i don't think they're that great for blending and the one that it shows you to use on the dvd is horrendus!!

I use a boomerang file which is soo much easier i use the harder side to blend the line then the softer side to shape thin edges and finnish blending then just go over it with the orange sponge board. It took me awhile to get it right and i still sometimes don;t get it right. and if i get an air buble i just keep taking the tip off and placing it again till i get it right if i do get an air bubble i cheat and put a coat of pink ice varnish on top just to distract from it!

I find the bubbles more a problem than blending!

ahhh, good tips! (no pun intended lol!)

i wasnt getting on very well with their files either! wasnt sure if it was me not doing it right though! what grit is the boomerang?

so, if you get an air bubble, you put pink ice varnish over. Do you then do the smile line after? do you not use the pink gel if you do this or do you do both? sorry!! i can be very daft sometimes! its great asking someone who is more experienced!

I have the diamond polish and love it! xx

i haven't tried the diamond polish, i'll have to order that next time i place one. A friend of mine who uses calgel gave me the varnish tip, i just paint 1 or 2 coats over depending on how obvious the bubble is then do my smile line then my clear gel!

No it's not just you lol i was the same i think they are 240 i'll check when i'm back at work and let you know on that 1, i just get a pack of 5 of them from sallys they're about £4 i find calgels files are expensive and they have 1 for every occassion lol.

The pink Gel is really pretty and i always charge abit more for that but i think it goes a bit peachy after awhile when they're regulars, i don't have any problems with it peeling either which i've heard is common with the pink.

i find the pink quite fiddly to use when im doing the french though, put the pink on, wipe away smile line, freeze, apply whiite, cure. it takes me too long. Is this the process that you use? thanks so much you have helped me loads!!

No worries i have had many sleepless nights over calgel lol, i don't do it that way. I paint the pink on the whole nail, cure, (do it as many times as you need to, to get the coverage you want) then i paint the white on the tip then tidy the smile line, cure, then go over in clear, the calcrystal.

With the white and clear after blending the tip i paint the tip and tidy smile line, cure, then put the clear over. (to tidy the smile lines i put calguard on a nail wipe, wipe a 4 flat on it and swipe it across), then calcrystal.

I often wear the pink and white on my toes and get endless comments from it, when ever i go to the supermarket i wear open toed shoes or flip flops and it always gets them noticed.

i will sleep now! well, until my baby decides to wake me up through the night (hopefully just the once please god!!)

ahh, makes much more sense. I have been doing it the way i was trained and i thought there must be an easier way! cant wait to try it out!! speak soon and thanks again xxx:)

No worries if you need any more help just pm me,

Good luck x

you could tailor the well and preblend the tip.
this makes it so much easier to avoid getting airbubbles and the tips then only need the minimum of work to blend once they are fitted.

i always show my students how to do it,because when i learned it made such a difference to me. its a little bit fiddly at first, but it makes the rest of the process so much easier.

i think there might be a how to in the tutorial section of this site.

Can i ask what the pink ice is,as i use no.2 for pink at the moment which is sort of a blush colour. Thanks:hug:

I think the coverage pink they mean is 43 Gabi. Im not a big fan of it myself as it can look a bit of a "dirty" pink on some clients. Iv not found a pink I like for the french yet, so tend to stick with clear!

BeautyGuru- The pink ice is a nail varnish it's a very pretty faint pink with shimmer, my friend gave it me when i first changed to calgel as i was having problems with the tips.

Cabinkel- i've only found it looks dirty on 1 client but she doesn't look after her nails what so ever and will wait 4/5 weeks for an infill and doesn't do any of the after care. I do find though that it turns to a peachy colour after a while which doesn't look great, but they have a very limited colour range especially for french.

I know what you mean i've not found a colour for french that i'm mad
about.

Angel Fingers - I never thought about pre blending them :smack: that would make life so much easier! Have you got any other tips?

Do you find that when doing infills with clear and white that they yellow very quickly? i was wondering whether it was the lamp & me, but i was told it would be something the client had done?

I dont find that they yellow, but I do sometimes find that the white can go a little gray if not calcrystaled regular enough. Have uou tried the super clear? This apparently stops the yellowing. Or a teeny tiny bit of purple rain gel mixed into the clear stops yellowing. If you phone calgel head office they could tell you the amount of purple needed,

purple in the clear works wonders, make sure you pop enough in, it should look slightly violet if you test it in the inside of the pot lid.

RE the tips I always use well less from pro impressionsn no blending, fab ! just make sure you make a good apex, I never have any probs with breakages hth

Hi,

I am a newly qualified nail technician so I am afraid I will be bombarding you with a load of questions.

First one - I did a childrens party on Saturday for 6 seven year olds. I gave them a mini manicure followed by nail art of their choice. I also got them to draw some hands with different decorated nails and gave a present to the best one. I provided a goody bag allf or £8. I felt guilty taking the money as it seemed so easy. What do other people think, did I charge too much?

My second question is that I am looking at the Biosculpture training and products. A lot of people seem to want the soak off option of gel. Has anyone any experience of this. Initial cost of training seems steep.

That is it for now. Hope to hear fellowex techs!

x:confused:

I think you should start a new thread or your questions will get lost in here.

The superclear is worth getting. It is already purple and seems to be a harder more impermeable gel than the original clear, not stonger though as it is meant as a top coat only, its not a replacement for clear. You cant use it instead of clear.

You can get a small pot so it can be included in one of your 5 in the offer they do.

It has different application and takes two mins to cure it also takes longer to soak off so a good buff is required. Both my clients and i say it works to reduce yellowing.

When you purchase do so by phone and they will explain fully how to use and also send you separate instructions.

i cant find the tutorial, am i being daft??
