Evening geeks,

I'll try not to make this too depressing, I just want your views on something as we're having a disagreement.

When someone is heavily sedated (I.e. drug induced coma) do you believe they can hear you?

They may not be able to respond, but do you think they can hear?

Sorry, I know it's a bit depressing, but I just wanted someone else's point of view.

Xxx

Yes they can. If they are connected to monitors etc you can see the changes in their heart rate. Hope everything is ok. X

Thank you both. I believe he can hear me too. I was sat by his bedside chatting to him. Felt a bit silly as it was like talking to a brick wall, but I'm used to that with my OH lol. (It's not my OH btw)

At least I get a little comfort hopefully knowing he could hear me talking to him and telling him I loved him, even if he couldn't respond.

I'm pretty sure he could feel me touching him too as his arm twitched a few times.
Thanks geeks xxxx

Keep talking to him and lots of positive things, just as though he's awake. When my mum was sedated my cousins visited and sang to her and when they hit the high notes all her machines started beeping - she didn't wake up for another week so that proves she was definitely asleep. X

Thanks ladies. Will keep talking to him. We've been talking about all the bad stuff that is about to happen away from him, as I'd hate for him to hear and be laying there worried and sad.

I thought I'd ask as I believe he can hear but someone else said it doesn't matter if we are not there as he will know no different. But that seems such a narrow minded comment :( xxx

Could you play him his favourite music? I believe this may have some effect.

Yes i believe they can x
So talk talk talk away xx
I had
meningococcal septicaemia( one of the worst forms of meningitis)
when i was 20 months old
I had little chance of survival and they told my parents get the family in she wont last the day!

I had 99.9% chance if i did survive
Of being severely disabled
From no legs or brain damaged anything!

I was in a coma for 10 days , when they told my mum and dad this
She brought a tape player in as i am 26 now x lol
And played me my favourites song by chis rear that i used to dance to
And i came out of coma!!!

And i survived obviously , and
That 0.1 % i grabbed hold of because i came out with nothing wrong with me!

SO DEFO TALK :) I TRULEY BELIEVE IT HELPS xx
