I have used lots of different coloured gels and they all require a clear gloss afterwards to get that glossy high shine that IMO a colour needs....

Is there any reason at all why coloured gels cant be made with the top gloss already included...?

It would make things easier....:) and help to keep that zone 3 thinner.

I can't help with the answer here but I would love to know. I use Calgel and cap all of my colours with clear gel and send clients home with clear top coat.
I do think to get even coverage all over (esp. with the dark colours), zone 3 tends to be a bit too thick for my liking.

These are mine at the mo with CGA37 calgel

hi....how to you apply your coloured gels??.....i have just done my gel course but didnt really cover coloured gel application...i just presumed it would be done in the same way. Do you not need to file or anything?? i thought that was why you needed a top coat to add the gloss after any refining has been done. If they are applied too thinly do they not just peel off.....sorry to waffle on but just asking all the Q's that are popping into my head

Sian...with coloured gels you do all your shaping and filing first..then apply the coloured gel...no filing is done on the colour.

I always build with clear/pink gel first for strngth...then wipe and buff/file to shape...clean the nail and then apply 2 thin coats of colour followed by a gel top gloss.

I'm not an expert on the chemistry of these Angie (where is Doug Schoon when you need him:lol:) but my guess would be that to include the amount of pigment you need to get good colour coverage then you wouldn't be able to cure to a high gloss finish.

Think nail enamel....it is thinner so is slightly more shiny, but to get a really good high gloss finish you need top coat.

I have btw, on occasion, cured the colour, wiped and just added a top caot as opposed to a finishing gel. Its been more for sample nails and tips etc, but I suppose if strength wasn't needed that would work.

With the color gels....can you put them on as a "polish" without having to do a "gel enhancement" underneath? Like could I put a bonder layer then just the gel polish, then a sealer gel?

I was thinking about this with some clients who aren't really into artificial enhancements, but like the idea of a polish that will not chip and will stay nice and shiney.

Do you girls do any of this?

you need a soak off gel for this as it has more flexibility and works better on the natural nail.

something such as lechat nobility gel /biosculpture/ calgel

If I am doing a coloured Brisa nail I really only have the bonder layer in zone 3 so the 2 coats of colour and top coat don't add too much bulk to that area - HTH
