I've just spent 24 hours on and off removing the acrylic and tips on my nails. I did this by soaking in acetone for 15mins at a time and gently rubbing off the excess with an orange stick (hence its taken me so long).

I've done this in preparation for getting my first NSI Attractions kit next Thursday, plus I had nails with bits missing, the usual cracks through the ends of z1 and bad:o regrowth.

This is the first time in 18 months I've been without acrylic tips, and my natural nails are very brittle, they are thin and bendy. I'm trying to get as smooth a file as possible on them. Is there anything I can do to give them some treatment at home before Thursday? I know you can buy nail treatments but by the time I've bought and waited for them to arrive it'll be thursday lol.

Just thought I'd ask advice on here, thanks x
btw, not sure if my nail condition is normal or due to the fact I was a terrible nail biter before I started having tips and acrylic

hard one, as when you have been wearing enhancements for a while it can take 1-7 days for them to harden back up, but if your nails have been overfiled then they wont. I always recommend lashings of solar oil & keep nails short if damaged.
When you are soaking off you should do one hand at a time leave it in until the product slides off, this can take up to 30 mins sometimes if you have to force any porduct off this will certainly damage your nails. hth xx

thanks Sarah, I was going by what I could find on the internet, on how to remove them. I can only remember having a new set a couple of times, and I'm sure after soaking them in acetone my tech, sort of snapped them off a bit at a time with clipping scissors. They sort of broke off easy when she did them.

Got avocado oil............?

Haven't you been shown to remove safely in when you trained in nails?? I cannot tell from your profile where you trained, but removing should be covered.
In case your are waiting to take a class (hence the waiting for a new kit) clipping of is not a way to remove them, but spending 24 hours is a bit to much LOL you should have just put them into product remover again after gently removing softened material...

A nail and cuticle oil should help bring some of the health back into them.

Do remember though that we often forget when we have enhancements on for quite a time what our nails are like underneath, I often take off acrylics feeling that my nails are so bendy underneath. They are no more bendy than normal, I have just been used to feeling the strength of acrylic against my skin.

Oiling them should help and if you are concerned about the brittleness, getting some coating on them such as the new shellac will help to protect them a little bit.

sorry for any confusion. I'm not trained.

I'm getting my first kit next week to try and do my own nails. If I can get funding for a course as a carer, I'd love to do it, but for now, it's the NSI DVD and internet that I'm using.

I'm using Strong Results by Avon at the minute, its all I had in.

tbh, I'm going to spend quite some time practicing on tips before I put any on my fingers, so I'd have time to condition my natural nails before. Will have a look on NSIs site to see what they have

thanks x

To get your nails back to perfection, cuticle and handcream as often as you can. OPI Nail Envy is brilliant, as it conditions your nail plate and protencts at the same time xx
