Hiya
Having a bit of a nightmare with 2 of my clients I did last week..
They are mother and daughter and they both had a set of French Nail Extensions with Bio Sculpture gel. The gel on all the nails is still perfect, but the tips underneath have started cracking down the middle! Because of this the gel is then peeling off later.
Does anyone have any idea why on earth this is happening? I have heard of gel cracking before but never the tip underneath.
They are the same tips and glue I have always used..I have soaked the daughters off and am soaking off the mother's on friday - they are absolutely fine about it, really lovely people, but aren't sure what to do next, whether to have another set or not.
Please help!

Cracking down the middle usually means the clients are 'playing' with them in their mouth and squeezing them with their teeth. I would not replace for free as I will guarantee it will not be happening on all nails but just a few that they 'play' with.

Sometimes you see it with ladies that squeeze their nails when doing something like wearing a tight glove and playing golf.

There is nothing other than some pressure that is causing this to happen unless the tips you used were high arched and were forced onto very flat nails (in which case the prob is your fault and you will see it on allot of nails) and you will have to replace for free.

You've helped me out no end here, i had the same problem last week, a client who's tips were cracking but the gel remained in tact. I have actually seen her with them in her mouth, sort of gently biting the tip.... (hard to describe what i mean exactly).

Maybe this was the cause? I did fix them for free, thinking it was something i had done wrong, even though i was sure it wasn't. Sometimes being new to it, you blame yourself too quickly!

It can be very annoying - I can't tell you how many of these I have experienced. I tend to show them with a nail tip between my own teeth to show how the plastic cracks.
If they don't realise they're doing it, they're more careful with them, but if they do know it's their fault, they at least know that I know what they're up to!!

I know but you really need to start having the courage of your convictions. At some stage (and very soon) you need to start being firm. We all know that nothing in the world breaks unless there is some presure put on it. If they weren't broken when they went out the door then that is their responsibility not yours.

I tell all new clients that once they leave the salon with a perfect set, the rest is down to them and that I will not take responsibility for any damage done to them.

If you left a garage with a brand new car, they would not take responsibility if you came back with scratches on it. We all know cars don't get scratched all on their own.

thats a good idea.

There are 2 main reasons why the tips have cracked like that..

1 - tips are not fitted correctly (wrong shape tip for nail shape or tip too small)

2 - soak off gels are not as strong as buff off gels and don't often support a nail that has been extended with a tip especially if you have just brushed it on like polish without re-enforcing the stress area in any way (either by building a c curve or adding silk or fibreglass)

As an experienced user of both soak off and buff off gels I never use soak off gels with tips for that reason :)

Look, there is a simple law of nature it is called CAUSE & EFFECT

In other words ... there has to be a cause to produce an effect. Do they believe that if they sat all day with their hands in their laps, that their nails would have cracks in them.

It doesn't matter how they are doing it ... YOU did not do it. They were not that way when they left your table. Therefore they pay for repairs.
