I put this in the ban MMA petition sticky, but it's a bit of an old one now and people have generally signed it, so don't go back to it, and it's not that often that you will see this extreme damage that has been done to a human being from lack of knowledge, lack of hygiene and lack of care.

I have also sent details to mine and the client's MP.

I think it really needs to be brought to everyone's attention the damage that NSS salons can do to people and why we need regulation in the industry....hence starting a new thread......I have copied and pasted my post from the petition thread..........................

Another reason for those who have not as yet signed, to sign this petition.

L/P toes nails applied at a local NSS, using tips to extend ......two days later, major infection resulting in the removal of the whole toe nail at the GP surgery, a course of anti-biotics and a week off work!

Sorry about the quality of the pic, mobile phone but I'm sure you get the idea!

BTW the ragged looking free edges are as a result of the lady trying to remove the nails as zero after care advice had been given.

OMG That looks so painful, I signed the petition the day I registered on salon geek. I have tried tell two girls in my local shop about the dangers of going to these places but no luck yet, but got some pics off the internet of damaged nails so I hope that works.
I hope your client get better soon.

Err!!gross ..I was eating a yoghurt..seeing this urgh!poor lady.

I spotted a lady at the swimming baths the other day..all..her toe nails were like this..dont always go peering at peeps toenails at the swimming baths BTW..but I couldnt help but notice them...yuk!if I had toenails like that Id have to wear carrier bags over me feet.

Have already signed the petition, and have done some education,I even take my copy of last months Scratch mag along to new clients and show them the artical on MMA so as to proove Im not making it up.

OMG YUK!! cathie ur poor client must,ve been in agony and i can imagine upset looking at that pic her nails look ruined i hope she is ok ..same situation a few young girls i know from the area go to an NSS salon ...i pity them ..i really want to say something to them and show them the damage caused but i feel it might fall on deaf ears...i've read many threads and signed the petitions to have it banned..hope the MPs see sense and listen to us...i don't understand why America and the other countries mentioned knew what happens and the dangers got it banned and not us? we have to thank them for alerting us to it tho.

I guess that nobody cares about the damage that is being done to our industry by untrained, unsanitary, uninsured salons.......

These salons are ruining and rubbishing our industry, as the clients who go there and have a bad experience will never come back to having their nails done, even in a hygienic and well trained environment.....sadly we are tarred with the same brush by these clients.

I guess there's more important things about the business that we need to concentrate on, like dipping tips into gel for ultimate french or I don't know what other tripe Imust have missed.

I am very passionate about the industry and am fed up of it getting a bad name because of NSS and also branded, maybe not so NSS salons, but IMO they are still NSS!.

Apologies for the rant.

OMG Cathie, that pic made me want to throw up!

I have had 2 clients in the last few weeks that have had MMA on their nails. One of them was telling me about how cheap and quick they were to get on, hopefully during the one and half hour removal process I have managed to educate her on the pitfalls of it. :irked:

Im not qualified yet as a nail tech yet and it may seem like a daft question to those who are,,but how do you know if a client has had mma enhancements? btw I signed it a while ago :)

You can't really prove anything without lab testing the product, but tell tale signs are:

Smells a bit fishy when filed
Very hard substance and difficult to file
Very difficult to soak off as it doesn't break down very well with acetone

BTW the EHO are now getting involved with this case.

My god that is vile! Why do some peeps continue to go to these sort of salons when the lack of hygiene is well publicised? The mind boggles! I bet you were shocked when you saw that Cathie!

I was quite shocked, it was her first visit to that salon and her friends clubbed together to pay for her to have a 'pampering'.......

The general public don't really know about nails and just go with it, thinking service like this, it's OK and normal service.
