Hi Geeks,

As the title says really..! I'm not a lasher, I'm a Skincare therapist, but I offer most other beauty treatments as well.

I'm considering adding lashes to my treatment list this summer. I was trained in cluster and strip lashes about 12 years ago as part of my course, but I wonder if any of you can help me tell the difference between:

Express Lashes
Party Lashes
Cluster Lashes
Lash Extensions

(I pretty much know what extensions are but interested in seeing your definitions!).

Also, when it comes to extensions, are there products that you find easier or harder to work with? Did you receive training from your chosen lash supplier or did you get a generic qualification and then choose a supplier afterwards?

Any advice would be most appreciated! Sorry I'm asking a lot!

Hi, I also specialise in skin, do most areas of beauty as well, and recently did eyelash extension training.
My definitions would be

Express lashes - eyelash extensions covering just the outer corner of the eye, single lash on single lash, fall out as lashes do.

Party lashes and cluster - consider these to be the same thing - a cluster of lashes inserted between the natural lash, using a different adhesive to eyelash extensions. Should last several days, so great for a party and a ot more comfortable than strip lashes. I did have a client who went somewhere and had these put in with eyelash extension glue and they completely wrecked her natural lash!!!

Eyelash extensions - a lash on lash extension, that fall out as the natural lash falls out - sort of a full set of express lashes.

This is how I see them, but am happy to be corrected!

I do quite enjoy doing eyelash extensions, but they are damn fiddly. I trained with the company who's product I wanted to use - A H Francis. Hope that helps!!!

Party Lashes/Cluster Lashes: These are the same thing. 4 or 5 lashes together (either with or without a knot at the base) applied with a latex type glue. Only for temporary/weekend wear and should fall off fairly quickly.

Semi Permanent lash extensions: Single lashes applied one at a time to one, single natural lash. Applied with a much stronger glue and each one should stay on until the natural lash sheds at the end of it's growth cycle. Applied properly, clients can return indefinitely for infills.

Express Lashes: Same lashes and glue as Semi Permanent lashes but a much quicker application technique as natural lashes aren't isolated and extensions are placed along the top of the natural lashes. These must be removed using an appropriate remover after 2 weeks as the natural lashes cannot grow or shed due to the fact that some will be stuck to each other.

Perfect answer!
I never know how to word these descriptions but this is exactly spot on :)
