Hi, I'm just starting out, (and to be fair I haven't really advertised as yet). Only friends, family and friends of family etc.

I've a few regs for manicures which is great and have really low starting prices to get people in - but it's not happening! I want the L+P and gels peeps to make appointments, but I think ladies are so worried of their fingers looking awful coz I'm new, they are holding back on booking. I do my own L+P and gels, and they look really nice (for a newbie). I always keep them tidy coz I think of my pinkies as 24/7 advertising too!

I've designed my leaflets (5000 are on their way!), printed my business cards, and nearly completed my website. It all looks like a great professional package and I'm thinking of where I can leave my leaflets. I'm gonna approach my little boys nursery, my sis-in-law is a teacher, so at the school, at my dad-in-law's pub are just a few.

Does anyone have any other ideas that have worked? I'm gonna do the traditional leaflet drop too around the houses, but have read on here that it's not been so successful with some people.

In my gallery, I've put pix of my leaflet and business card. They show my intro prices which I'm looking to increase in the new year (aslong as I get some clients!).

How long should I have my intro prices for (I started only 2 weeks ago)? At the mo, I'm doing a Luxury Manicure including paraffin wax for £9. It takes 1.5 hour and can't wait to make a bit more money!

Any feedback is appreciated. Hope to get some ideas from you soon!

Tbh I think you sound like you have it all pretty much covered and know what your doing...I do think your prices are too low...I know your new and all that but I still think you could still charge more and you might of been better off starting out by setting your full price - price list and putting an introductory offer on for a set time while you get yourself started...as you may find it difficult to increase your prices when you have started so low if you see what I mean...but if youve already sent everything off to the printers then so be it but make sure people know that you will be raising your prices!
Your stationary looks great I love it! Your nails arent bad either for a beginner...what I would do now is post all your nail pics in the critique section and you will get lots of advice how you can improve them.

A couple of other ideas I could suggest is...do you have a local hairdressers that dont have a tech that might be kind enough to help you out by putting some biz cards on their counter or a flyer in the window?
Try contacting any beauticians in your area that dont do nails and see if they would be interested in swapping biz cards and price lists with you so that you can advertise each other to your clients....I was approached by a beautician a little while ago..I met up with her a few days ago and we swapped our biz cards etc...she doesnt do nails and I dont do beauty so we can help each other out.

Good luck you sound raring to go!

SEIZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO WOMEN. I volunteered to talk to women's groups and do demonstrations -- this is easy as there are always groups wanting women to speak about what they do --- I left my cards everywhere I went .... did wedding fairs and local business fairs .... everything and anything where I could get exposure.

One of my best promotions of my business was to offer to do a full set for free for selected women in the public eye and to maintain them if I got bookings through their recommendation. I did a couple of check out girls in the local supermarkets (women were always commenting on their nails) and I did the owner of the local wedding shop and ladies dress shop (nice one). They displayed my cards in their shops and my work on their nails. I got tonnes of clients this way and tonnes of people talking about my work.

It ain't easy but it is what you have to do if you are serious about business and these few free ones keep you busy, give you good feed back and really only cost you your time and not much in product.

Great, great and great advice! Didn't think about approaching wedding dress shops, we have one in our town too (they're actually selling my dress for me atthe mo!). And I know a few ladies who work in supermarkets too. Having two little bambinos means that I could approach local baby groups for leaflet drops and chatting.

AnnaBanna, glad you like my stationary! I'm a Graphic Designer by degree, so it should look half decent! Didn't know about the Critique part ofthis site. Will pop my snaps on there and hope to get feedback - thanks for advice! x
