Sorry to sound a bit thick, but what is the difference when people talk about tip and overlay and p & w? I don't use white tips (I assume that's tip and overlay), and instead use clear tips and paint on the white gel. Does that mean I do p & w?? Do you guys offer a choice of both in your business or do you stick to either using white tips OR using clear and applying the white yourself?

Thanks

You're not thick, just in a pickle!!

Tip and overlay - where a tip is applied and overlaid with either L+P or gel. The tip can be white, natural or clear, and the overlay can be pink and white (p&w) or one colour.

Pink and white - the most common name for a permanent french manicured look to nail enhancements. Using clear tips and paint on white gel does indeed mean you do p&w.

P&w and tip & overlay are 2 different things! I do both - I tip and then I apply p&w but I'm a liquid and powder (l&p) girl! Personally I do stay away from white tips - I prefer to create my nails by hand including my smile lines.....

A tip and overlay is a tip, with an overlay - this can be any colour, clear tips clear overlay, white tip, clear overlay etc...

P&W is Pink & White meaning you have used either a white tip or whatever colour you choose overlay, OVER a white or clear or neutral tip.

One is the product and the other, the colours.... HTH's

Many thanks for your help. So if I put on natural coloured tips say, and do a clear overlay, then that's a tip and overlay? And if I use my usual clear tips and paint on the white part and build up the apex with another gel, then that's p & W? Surely unless I've done sculpting, then everything is a tip and overlay?

All rather confusing.....

Yes, unless it's a natural nail overlay!
Pink and white is generally a term for the look of the nail as in french.

Exactly, unless it's a natural nail overlay which is no tipping and no sculpting, just the overlay over a natural nail.

Whenever you use a tip & acrylic product over the top it is a tip and overlay. This can be done with P&W (pink & white), single colour or anything else you want.
Tip and overlay is the method of application, so is scuplting.
P&W is the colours used.
