hi,

i had my nails done today by my nail tech, i havent had them done by someon else in over a year but to prep my nail she used her e file, very gently and said she has no probs with this..

does any one else do this?? and is it ok to do if you are very careful??

i mean if you use a normal file to prep is this not just as damaging?

i must say she gave me a mega set of nails and i am sooo pleased with them

please give me any feedback

thanks

It is a definite NO NO to use an electric file on the natural nail,
we only need to remove the shine from the nail plate during prep with a gentle file,
using an e-file no matter how careful will remove part of the nail plate,
i use an e-file in my salon but i wouldn't dream of using it on the natural nail,
glad you are happy with your nails though hun, hth

I use e-file for prep and I don't remove anything else but shine.I've seen more dammage done with hand file but I'll never say don't use it on the natural nail. If you are properly trained how to safely use e-file or hand file, no dammage should be done .

I Becki

Fisrt of I do agree with Lou that it is not a good thing to use e-file on the natural nail that is however if you are not trained.

Although in saying this there are very highly skilled nail techs out there such as Gerg Salo of Young Nails www.youngnails.com who can make this look very easy and also more important dont cause any damage to the natural nail and use only an arbour band with the file on a very low speed.

Hope this helps:idea:

Totally agree honey:hug:

I have had proper training with NSI,
it was them that taught me it should never be used on the natural nail, this is where i got my info from :green:

It is very tricky, it can be done without damage but i don't do it too, i feel much safer using a hand file (and i'm a real e file fan!), and since it is a very quick thing to do i think it might take longer with the e file beacuse of all that care you have to put into doing it right. Much simpler with hand file in my opinion, just 1 min for all ten nails...

in my own opinion - i was also trained with NSI on how to use an e-file. but in doing so was taught how to use it on the natural nail, i think that alot of the probs with e-files come from the tech (not the teaching) and that the tech isnt too sure how to use this instrument.(even after training. i was taught what grit, pressure, speed etc, my training was very good, and i learnt alot from it, but after consideration, i decided NOT to use an e-file for anything, as the prep training i got was suffice for me - if it aint broke, dont fix it - im glad i did the e-file training tho, but for me it just WASNT for me. i think if the tech has the proper training, and actually KNOWS how to use the e-file, then you carry on. not everyone is suited, or happy using them, but i think its down to personal preference

I totally agree, no one who is not trained and does not possess a certificate should go near a client with an e-file. Think of NSS.

But, properly trained nail professional may use an e-file to prep the natural nail, using the lowest setting, work in the direction of the nail growth and USE APPROPRIATE bit. IMO:hug:

agreed again;) I don't always use my efile on the natural nail but I was trained well and taught that it is perfectly safe to use on natural nails when used properly, ie you can remove just the shine even with an e file, it also works well to remove any dead tissue around the cuticle, and im proud to say I've never hurt anyone with my efile lol

You can use an e-file on natural nails provided you use the proper drill bit ie: prepper barrel, and use absolutely NO pressure. The drill must be set on a really low setting, again, with no pressure applied.

I learned how to do it from Rachel Mourtisen, 2007 Pro Cup Champion and INM Director of Education

Hi

I use an e file and I use it on the lowest speed to just take the shine off natural nails before a set of enhancements. I think this is fine and my clients don't feel a thing at all and it doesnt damage the plate but I know some salons in my area that have given e files a really bad name and they can be quite damaging if in untrained hands:!:
