Is there a knack to getting each nail to the same roundness, as whenever I do it not all nails look exactly the same?

Thanks

Hiya ... I always use nail clippers instead of tip cutters when i want a oval shape nail...it does most of the work for you as you can angle the nail clippers and get a oval shape right off....then i file at a angle (almost under the tip) to remove any sharp edges....HTH

It's near on impossible to get all 10 nails 'exactly' the same

File from the side to the centre and then from the other side to the centre. I see a lot of my students trying to file from left to right in a rounded way (this is really hard to explain !!)

The real key is practice - as they say, practice makes perfect

i think file controle is an important part of and evenly shaped set of nails regardless of shape:)

i always did square as it seems easier but after getting the book I now try to get people to have oval or almond shaped nails as it looks so natural. I found changing the angle of my file did the trick just fine x

make sure you center yourself, center the client, center the nail and center your pressure when filing, compensate for being stronger on your right or left side depending on if you are left or right handed. I find making the shape quickly helps, .... faffing around tends to add "facets" to the shape when you really want it to be smooth and oval/round.

Visualize a line down the middle of the nail and make sure it is balanced on both sides ..... and practice, the more you do, the better you will get .... until it just comes naturally.
