hi everyone.
i have a friend that is a REALLY bad nail biter, a couple of her nailbeds are about half a centimer in lenght.

She wants acrylic just to long enough to reach the end of her finger to look neat n tidy. (where the nail bed should end + a few millimeters)
im still training so i have told her i wont do anything with them yet as i have been told only really skilled techs can do make a good job of it.
she has had acrylics before but the tips ended up snaping off.

i want to practice on my nail trainer by cutting the plastic nailbed short as poss as i would like to be able to do nail biters eventually

do you just use the same procedure as normal ?

any advice would be great

thanks for your time.

Honestly I don't think you can practice biters on the trainer hand. There are so much more to it than just the short nailbeds. The difficulties lies not only in getting the overlay on properly, but also the speed of the nailgrowth and the tendency to pick at the enhancements.

You need really to understand properly how products act on a real nail, as the plastic nails are so easy to do, and last forever;)

yeah i know it wont be the same but i just thought it'd be better than going straight onto my friends nails.
the nail trainer is great but as you say they last forever and you cant see if the lift after a few days coz its not real.
i do my own nails and have done my sisters n different friends and it is more difficult and works differently on real nails i agree.

see the thing i really wana practice is the tips.

in theory how is done?

what would i do if there is nothing i can file to shape for matching upto the well, would you use tips without a well, or sculpt? (if this is possible on biters)

do you cut most of the well off to shorten it? (otherwise it would cover the whole nail bed and more)

do you use pre-blended or is it ok to blend a normal tip?

clear tips and sculpt using white and pink on top?

thanks

It all depends on the nails.

I look at the nails to se what would suit that best. I have used both with or without wells, but I always preblend my tips (if not using performance form CND as these doesn't need preblending) If the nails are really really badly bitten I sculpt on them, with virtually no free edge, this will grow in no time anyway.

I have a pic in my album of a bad biter, I used performance tips on her, and an opaque powder to cover up. Just note that those nails were done so much longer than I would normally allow, as she's used to nails, but had a break and chewed her own off in a few month's time as she was going through a very rough time.

I always use opaque powders on biters, unless they want a natural look with no white, because the white needs to be very short to avoid them looking stumpy.

HTH

thanks so much for that

if anyone else has any tips i'd be gratefull to hear them

any links for a demo showing a pro nail tech doing extentions on a nail biter would be great too, i'm looking now but cant seem to find any

thanks all

Have you tried Nail Angel for any videos?
I was taught to only sculpt on nail biters and not to apply tips, my sister in law is also a severe nail biter and i have put fully sculpted onto her nails just to the end so they looked neat and tidy like your friend.
It is hard to get the size of your bead right be once you've got that sorted its pretty staright forward. As long as your friend is prepared for the up keep, I fill and have to replace some of my sister in laws quite a bit!
Good luck xxx

thanks i'll have a look.
i have heard/read that you should sculpt but then i've also read that you cant get the form on and have to tip?

so many different ways i'd like to try a bit of everything really and see which i find has the best results

thankyou
