I'm starting up a new beauty salon and I am looking at different skincare products for facials. Just looking for a bit of advice in terms of what other people are using? I have looked at all the obvious options Dermalogica/Decleor/Elemis however I'm not sure I can afford their prices up front, from what I can see its at least 3k start up which is a lot to pay on top of all my other start up costs! But I do want to be able to offer facials from day 1 and maybe build it up, are there any other brands you would recommend that cost a bit less but are still good quality?

Look at your area and what everyone else is offering also your clientele
Do a search on here just putting in the word skincare

I think it's also a case of looking at your target market and your own salon's look, feel etc If you're wanting to promote skin care as a prime treatment then you really need to budget for a relevant product line. But, if you're specialising in say, nails, then product & image for skin care may not be as important.

Personally, the budget for the 2 skin-care ranges for my new salon is the biggest outlay (probably why I'm not sleeping at the moment)..... And breathe!

I have dermalogica and the smallest package they offer is about £1500 start up which is good. I believe Elemis will do packages around the same cost now too. Decleor is about £4000!!! And £1000 per month minimum orders.
Best thing to do is to contact them all. In my opinion it's done my salon the world if good having a well known brand. Good luck :)

I use Spa Find mineral skincare and my clients love it. The start up costs are low and their training is fantastic. The facials are some of the best I have ever worked with. They are very affordable for clients and I sell lots now and I keep a good range in stock... Don't discount any of the smaller companies. I have been troubled with my skin since a teenager... When I turned forty I found spa find and my skin has never looked so good! I don't go anywhere without it!

Kaeso. It's easy, no nasties, available from the wholesalers on request and not costing a fortune :)

Swissdermyl for me! Lynne Baker is the uk distributor and is a member here.

Im in the same position as you; just starting up my beauty room from home (which has taken months!) and have been looking at facial products that will allow me to offer clients luxury from the start.

A popular choice on here seems to be Eve Taylor - I ordered some samples and loved them. They do a very affordable starter kit too which I am planning on purchasing as soon as pay day arrives! :) lovely products and from what I've read on here give great results to clients too :) I can't wait to get my kit and try for myself!

Thanks for all your replies, really helpful!! It is a difficult decision as I want to be able to offer the best and be able to retail but at the same time i need to be able to afford all the other things for opening! £1500 doesn't sound too bad for Dermalogica and Elemis though, does anyone know if they have minimum order values after that? Does anyone use Elemis that could let me know how they've been doing with it?

I always thought elemis was a lot more expensive than that?? I'm just about to pay for my decleor opening order which is just over £3600 just for facials and there's not £1000 a month monthly spend that I am aware of :/!

Argh mine was nearly double that. wtf :irked:

And there isnt a monthly spend, despite there being paperwork to say this, they don't put this into effect

So excited for you Haylz! ITS NEARLY HERE!

My Decleor opening order was fairly substantial, but I got an awful lot of stock for that, and the tester stands, and A&P and free training, so all in I thought it was a bargain! I made it all back and more within the year!

Likewise, I'm not sure where the £1k thing comes from, I've never been aware of it!

I got loads of stuff with mine too which I'm happy with, but I don't get how an opening order can change so much, that's what I'm wtf-ing about. I only have one treatment room

The 1k mystery is in the agreement when you sign up, not sure how long its been in there but I was told to ignore it - smurftastic

Did you take on face and body, or just face?

Just face and a small about of body retail. Oh and two body aromessences salon size. Oh and a body exfoliator. So errr yeah.... haha

I took on Dermalogica in October 2013 the smallest package was £2500, since them they've allowed another 3 salons to take it on in the small town I'm in. I also have an account with molyneux, gorgeous products essential oil & plant extract based. Crystal clear have lovely Skincare products with no minimum opening order and a sizable range x
