Feeling a bit . . . . . dissatisfied - and it has nothing to do with sausages!

Just wanted to share really, but just lately i've been feeling quite frustrated. I love my work and I enjoy making people feel good but I don't feel as though my job challenges me enough.
I have done a few refresher courses this year to try and perk myself up a bit but its not really done the trick.

Anyone else feel like this at times?

Nat x

I think a Holiday would do the trick....

Eerrrm what's with the sausages?

Had to ask! :)

I don't understand because i love everything about the business, but i know many a beauty therapist that has felt the same, some while they are training and some after many years and they have given up.

I think its because we do too much i think its better if you concentrate on one side of the industry ie pick what you are really good at and enjoy and aim to excel in it.

Whether it be holistics or nails, facials ,make up or waxing. Thing is these things are so diverse we cant be expected to be good at them all or love them all and it can get disheartening.I think you can actually see how the passion comes through a lot more on the forums with those that specialise.

Maybe you're right, I haven't had a holiday since 2006 so I could be suffering from cabin fever lol

There are a few threads floating around where a certain few geeks seemed to have developed a love of all things sausage related lol. X

I'm not about to give up, as I said I love what I do and I am good at it too, I just need more brain food sometimes I think x

Not sure whether you home-based or mobile, but if you are either of these, maybe you could try looking at setting up a salon instead? That will certainly give your brain some food (and lack of sleep lol). Just a suggestion. xxx

Aw Natalie .. is there another direction you could take the job in that would stretch you a bit further .. medical maybe?

Awwwh I get you now! :)

Anyhoo... you really should think of booking yourself a holiday.

I must admit, I felt like this earlier in the year... I've had a very bad year and just kept going and plastering that smile on to my face and I just got to a stage where I didn't care anymore... I started to dread work and that is so not like me... I was getting a bit worried and my Hubbie said I needed a Holiday... well who was I to argue? :)

Well I came back and felt so much better and had my mojo back!

I can't believe you haven't had a Holiday in 5 years...Life's too short and you need to let your hair down, no wonder you feel dissatisfied... go and book something!!

Thanks jacqui, you mean like cosmetology or dermatology?

I just seem to have reached a fork in the road. My trouble is I do get bored very easily, I do it with everything, jobs, houses, clothes, my hair, boyfriends, looking in the mirror lol. I am a 'mare. Need to have a think about this one xx

I am home based and salon based, I do Tues, Weds and Sats at my sister's salon which is based in leicester as there is so little work in my area ( north notts) and then I do rest of the week home based.

I think a holiday and some much needed introspection are required, I like the idea of further developing my skills to a more specialist or medical level.

Hmm . . . . . . . . X

Sooooo like me. I feel exactly the same as you hun. Like I'm stuck in a rut and I don't know why, or how to sort it.....?

And if one more person blames my mood on the weather.....!!!!!!!

Lol I don't think the erratic climate helps, but its not the reason.

Its not a nice feeling at all, if you're anything like me, you eat, sleep and breathe the industry to the point where you have no life lol and that also doesn't do u any favours xx

Perhaps work is fine. Maybe you need to do something completely different in your spare time.
I used to have a totally draining and all-consuming job. Every Friday late afternoon I had a saxophone lesson, which I dreaded because I found it really challenging and difficult. My teacher was a perfectionist and, although we became close friends , he was quite tyrannical with me. At the end of the lesson I felt completely refreshed and ready for the weekend. I think it was the equivalent of brain-washing - in the best possible way!
Dance classes are also great.
Basically, choose something that you are NOT naturally good at. Progress is hard but sweet!

I think that is a fab idea, I am useless at dancing and music, so maybe I should look into that. Thank you x

love previous post!

Why not try something extremely different to your usual routine, even if you hate it at first?

You have not had a holiday for years (neither have I - because money too tight), but something maybe once a week in something very different could be the answer. Often adult colleges offer "vocational" courses that may not stimulate you enough as your profession is quite creative anyway, but how about undertaking an "A level" in something you have not done before? Years ago I did an adult course A level in English (lit and lang). My youngest was at the time only about two years old and it was a stuggle, but boy, did i feel fantastic when I got my results.

You have all given me some great advice. I will look into a few of them over the weekend. Thank you xx

How about doing your PTLLS.With a view to eventually teaching ,very challenging i would imagine. It is an interesting course, not that ive done it myself, but my daughter enjoyed it and wants to eventually do her DTLLS when shes got a lot more industry experience and is a bit older.

I had been feeling like that so decided to do my certificate in education! So glad I did! It's a refreshing change to learn about new things, such as teaching styles etc, and I love teaching newbie wanbie beauty therapists ! X

Must agree with Dandelionpoppy on this one. I'm going through the same thing myself. I'm going to take up a pottery class and roller skating.
