Im having a mare!!

Just in the process of completing my CND foundation course.... final day next Thursday.

Every spare minute I have im practicing my application but I just can't seem to get it right. Mix ratio is very hit and miss, pink application seems to be going on like a patch work quilt which means that the surface of the nail is uneven, zone 3 tends to be too close to the cuticle which makes the buffing difficult and and I won't even speak of my smile lines!!!

I ve done about 4 (human) sets now all of which I can see an improvement each time, my last set was dare I say it close to perfect where it all just all seemed to come together right.

So here I am last night, my first set of in fills (on my first full set I had done) and filled with my confidence of my last set thought it would be equally as good .... how wrong was I.... took hours of continuous buffing (obv application first time round was way too thick), poor application ( as above) and then to round it off when it came to finishing it looked like my client (luckily my sister) had gone 2 rounds with edward scissor hands!!

I know it takes time but I just feel really flat at the moment ...

How do you get the application right, Im obviously doing it too thick yet I think any thinner and there won't be anything on the nail ...

Sorry to waffel but any help, advice would be greatfully received...:irked:

We have all felt like this, one think that is very important is that you know your faults - imagine if you thought they were all perfect, how could you ever improve.

You have not completed your course yet, keep practising, ask your educator for help and book some skill building to improve your techniques after your foundation course.

Keep going and good luck xxx

Hi i too am new at doing nails and the other day i did an almost perfect set on my mum, i was so pleased with them. This morning i have done a set and could not get the thumbs right. I felt ashamed of them, they were so thick. I think practise is the key and being honest with any paying clients (friends or family) that you are new and may still make mistakes. i have had 4 paying clients and have just has a lady return to me from 2 weeks ago. She was fine about the thick nails, obviously they were filed down before she left and she was really happy. Does this mean i have a regular client? Sooo exciting!!

I totally agree with Adele here, when I look back at the nails I done when I first started I think OMG  I am still never 100% happy with any set of nails I do as I always see something that I could tweak.

You will get there and your educator will help you, if you are not sure of something then ask and ask again until you are comfortable that you have got it, remember they want you to succeed.

I think you are being a bit hard on yourself. Best of luck.

Hi There,

I just completed my VTCT Nail Tech exams in the summer last year and I have to say I'm probably only just really getting to the point where I'm starting to feel happier with my nails, and God, they are taking so long too!!!!

BUT, don't feel down because you will get there in the end if you are determined. Deal with one problem at a time, write down what the problem is and come back to the forum and search for the answer - if you can't find it then post your question. The geeks on here are fab and will always give you constructive feedback. It just all starts coming together slowly but surely hun.

I'm not too far away from Chislehurst (and also work in the City too). I'm happy to get together with you one day if you want to practice on me? My right hand (non-dominant one that I try to do myself) always looks shocking when I do it, so no probs if you want to practice.

Keep your chin up hunny, you will get there!!

Please don't get despondant. I cannot speak for everyone else but me and me has one of those days every month. I do a good set and I am over the moon, on a high. I do a rebalance and I know I could do better but for some reason or another it just does not come together. I am a Perfectionist and without sounding like a sad case, if I know I can do better and I don't it annoys me. The good side is I have had no complaints as yet, lol. After 4 sets you should be giving yourself a good pat on the back as it was maybe a hundred before I was happy with what I was putting out. Keep on trying and you will get there. :)

Ditto! I've been a nail tech for 8 years and I still find fault. There is no such thing as a perfect set of nails ... even the best techs in the world who compete in nail competitions never achieve a 100% score! There is always something that can be improved.

Just keep going as you are, things will get easier I promise! I just don't think people realise how hard it is to do a good set of nails, and to do a good set of nails consistently!:hug:
