I am really feeling like i cant do it all ! has anyone else felt like this , and how did you work through it ?
I really love doing nails and am amazed at how much i am learning and how better each set gets. I put alot of money into it and i will not give up but i just feel like i have no energy. i have 3 little ones and an over active 15 wk old springer pup. My boyfriend has just taken on some work away from home, and it has taken him a while to get busy. i understand he has to do it as he has re-trained like myself and we all no how hard it can be to get work!!! it has just come at a bad time.
i take my exam on 18th and need to practise as much as i can but with him working away i am wthout flexible childcare, i am also fnding it hard to find models even though my nails cant be 'that bad' as my customers actually seem shocked at the result and say a tenner seems too low! i cant win.
I think i am winding myself up that i wont beable to pass my NSI L&P exam. i am no where near to the 30 sets they recommend. i hate not having done the groundwork for an exam and really want to be a good nail tech! and hate not knowing wht to expect on exam day. tips ect would be grateful.

My question is how do you juggle your nails, family and have time for yourself? Friends say if you want something badly enough you can make it happen and i want this soooo badly but cant see how to make it all fit?

Sorry for babbling, thanks for reading

My hubby works away from home for two weeks at a time, so for those 2 weeks I am a single mum of three boys, the youngest who has just turned 1. During that time I have to to the school runs, feed the baby his feeds, dinner, house, appointments etc. ALL by myself. It some times feels very hectic and I am often mentally tired... and often the house is neglected. I consider the house to be the least of my priorities - my hubby disagrees!!

Some nights I think about the following day and wonder how will I pull it all together, but I just do. At least once a week I will have a pajama day which is all about ME!!!! :green:

Take each day as it comes. The fact that you 'hate' not doing the ground work for exams shows dedication and and real passion for what you do which, in itself, tells me you will do well in your exams!! You will have days where you feel overwhelmed (I think this is true for all jobs and situations), but you will also have days where it all falls together nicely.

A balance is the hardest thing to achieve in anyones life .. home, children, husband work. Very very difficult and you're not even in business yet!!

With all that lot of family I do not think you CAN work successfully without support .. so why try just now or even worry about it as you are not nearly ready yet? Why not just use this time to LEARN and then later on when you have more support you can DO.

hi i know what you are giong through i have 4 little ones and it does get mad alot of the time but i find you have to have a routine. i get up at 6am and i structure my day to the minute you have to and i fit my appointment times when its convienient to me by giving my clients a chioce of maybe 4 slots it is alot easier than them telling me when they want to come and they dont seem to mind. could you not get the kids to bed and ask friends if they would come over for a free set thats what i did to help you get some practice in. i would say dont stress and please dont give up and the people on here are fantastic for support im so not giving up and believe me there are times when everything gets to much but i take stock and think of the future and where i want to be.:hug:xxxxxxx

Hiya,

I know it's really hard to make the time to do course work, as when I started out 6 years ago, I had 2 little ones. a full time job and I was a single Mum.

I used to have a routine, whereby I got up at 6am, did a few jobs in the house, got the kids ready for school, did my days work, cooked the kids tea, played for a while and had them bathed and ready for bed by 8pm. It was then I would sit for an hour or so and practise on my hand trainer. Some nights I would just feel like chilling out in front of the tv, but pushed myself. I found it really thearaputic once I got going, and sometimes would sit there for a couple of hours.

It does take a lot of self motivation to get going after a long day, but believe me when you gain that certificate at the end you will know that it will all of been worth while and it will make you feel soooooooo good.

Good luck

it is very hard!!! I only did my foundation just under 2 years ago......i was on maternity leave at the time from my other part time job at that time.....i later went back to work at my other job as i did not have the confidence in my work to be able to make a living out of it compared to the other job....plus i couldnt afford.
However i did get a part time job to do 1 day a week in a salon...away from the kids and family so at least i would get a minimum of 1 day to be able to practice/ do clients. I have got alot better than i was ...just not as quick as i would have liked and compared to others that i see...but i have learnt not to compare myself to others too much and work on what I do. That could mean getting the practice in when i can or taking more classes.
As it turns out i was made redundant at the begining of the year and have now set up on my own in a salon in the main high street......i still have a long way to go but i can definiately see myself getting there now, lol!!
I certainly would not be able to do all i have done without the support of my educators friends and most of all my mum for having my kids, lol!!!
Just do what you can when you can, I am sure you will get there eventually....it may take longer than what you anticipated just dont give up......because there will be times you will want to...well there have been many for me!!

just so you know i think i only managed to fit in about 5 or so sets before my foundation exam......i was so worried but i did well on my theory and not too bad on my practical piece, I am sure you will do fine!!

Thankyou all, i love being on here because i know im not on my own!!
I think yesterday was a bad day! But with all your comments i know i have to just put everything into this and give it my all. i think i will try a new routiene this week and also see if i can get a sitter for my 14mth old for a day or two and see if i can find some willing bodies. i was so desperate the other night that i almost persuaded my b'friend to lend me his hand, obviously i wasn't looking desperate enough lol:lol:
Alot of my friends who live locally are single mums so its hard for them to get out in the evenings, but you have given me alot of food for thought and im sure i will manage something...

I am going to sit my exam in two weeks ,im confident i will have learnt enough theory by then as i am constantly reading a paragraph between housework and school runs(i find i learn more little and often) and then spend an hour in the evenings too. My nails have come on so far, i have very little lifting now and make sure the product doesnt touch the side walls, also i do less filinf as i use my brush to shape the nails.(just worried im not near to 30 yet...)
After posting yesterday i picked out the photos from my 1st few sets:lol:

Thankyou again, just got to work as hard as i can over the nxt few weeks and definately let the housework suffer he he

do you not have a nail trainer??? or it was suggested on here once that rolling a piece of blue tac into the shape of a finger and press a tip into place where the nail would be. Nothing is the same as working on a real person.....but its something for you to practice your application on...better than nothing!!
good luck i am sure you will be fine
x

no i dont have a nail trainer...probably should have though!! untill now there hasnt been too much of a need as i have had sisters, friends, cousins to practise on.
Blue tac sounds like an idea though. i think im kinda stuck in no man land. People think because im training i will produce awful nails but until ive done some good sets im not going to be qualified.
Yes sian your right i will get there because i have the determination it just sometimes feels like im on a tred mill going nowhere fast lol.
Out of intrest what do they look for when your doing your exam set? im guessing prep, product placement and control, side walls and cuticle area also finishing correctly, good c curve and nice overall apperance. please let me no if anyone notices something ive missed out. TIA

Thanks Sian xx:)
