Hi, this is my first thread so please be gentle
You always see posts on here for gels and acrylics but I just wanted to say yey for fibreglass and silks. Did a set of silks on myself for the first time the other day and I'm really pleased. I had a nail that was close to breaking point and now it's got a silk "plaster" on it it's going strong, yey
Who else out there loves the silks and fibreglass?

I do like the end result - find it particularly good for nail repairs - but I find it a bit faffy for doing a full set. How long did it take you to do a full set?

Oooh and welcome to the board! :green:

I didn't time it but I don't think it took me that long. I only did NNOs so no blending of tips. Next time I'll time myself. I agree they are a bit fiddly but I like stuff like that. Easier to do on other people (did my mums nails after) as you can use two sets of tweezers to get the fabric in place.

PS. Checked my history on here and it seems I told a fib. I started a thread a while ago but it was that long ago I forgot

Ooooo - I used to absolutely adore silks/fibreglass and totally specialised in it.

Now I can't honestly remember why I phased them out.

They are strong and thin - and pretty looking.

If you like them - and theres not many others doing them in your area - specialise in them - you will get a loyal clientel from them - and you have your own little niche.

Best of all - you don't need to do any real buffing to shine them - as the resin is pretty glossy.

xx

I love them too...

it takes, for a NNO, less than an hour to do a full set

i love them to:) no one by me does them and it is really quick and easy the ens ersult is fab to go silk go fiberglass lol

Hi there,

I specialise in fibreglass/silk too and find a set of french tip ones only takes me an hour. The one problem I have is after I have 'activated' the glue, I sometimes find that it leaves little 'niches' and they are hard to file/buff out and the client is left with a few tiny white spots as I don't want to buff them too much and go through to the fibreslass!! Any suggestions?

Yes .. you are spraying too close to the nails or the mist of your spray is not fine enough.

I adore doing wraps ... I adore doing them ALL. Every nail expert should be an expert in ALL systems.

Wraps do not have the lasting ability of L&P or good quality gels. They just don't. The sets need to be renewed more often. Wraps break down in water over time and with age. Wraps are single link polymers and that is just the way it is. But it doesn't mean there is no place for them in our business.

Geeg,

Do you still do linens too? I used to love doing linens, even if they were a PITA to get a smooth surface. Those suckers were STRONG.

No but over the years I have used tea bag paper ( we used to call those Juliet wraps) and Linen and even acetate skirt lining instead of silk!! Any fabric almost will do the job as you know .. but some are better than others for clarity for sure.

Of course in the old days no one cared about clarity .. you just painted them!!
