I have a client who has been coming to me for a year. Previously she had been to a salon using "that extra strong" acrylic ... you know the ones.
Her nails were very brittle and weak and I was reluctant to put anything on them but she insisted. I was sure that with a gel overlay could do any more damage. After some time her nails improved slightly but she seems to be getting what I am sure is nail seperation ie , the tip is very white and dry and is not in a nice smile line but coming down the nail bed. This gets worse if she has french tip and overlay which I have refused to do now.
For months I have told her to go to the doctors which she just has and they have told her that she has a fungle infection !!
As a very busy hairdresser I think she has damaged her nails with lots of extensions previously that were too long.
She is still insisting that I put something on her nails I think the best I can do is a colour gel overlay ..... but with a fungle infection I know it would be best to leave off for sometime.... She is a salon owner and hates having no nails..... what to do???
Does anyone have any experience or words of wisdom they could offer, I would be most grateful
many thanks

A fungal infection is a contraindication to nail enhancments so if she actually does have a true fungal infection you should not be touching them.

But ... does she? Is she being treated with medication? or in fact, has she just got bad onycholysis due to the use of the drill and the hard nail products?

A doctor can only tell if he sends a specimine off to be cultured and grown under lab conditions .. did he do this? You need to know the real facts before you proceed woth any treament BUT if she does have a true fungal infection, then you should not treat her.

Thank you so much ... the doctor did not send of any nail clippings but has given her something to paint onto the nail and the skin surround.
I am not so sure that she has a nail infection....
I am going to show her what you have written.
If it proves that she does not have infection what would you suggest I do....
