Hi
Yesterday I tried the white tips for the first time. Ive just noticed that a bit of gel has chipped away showing the white tip underneath and that there are gaps on two of the other nails, I followed the exact same procedure as I would with any other enhancement and Ive not had this before, any suggestions?

Thanks

Gel isn't brilliant on white tips and can have a tendency to do this if you are not careful in your application. You need to really etch the tip and make sure absolutely no shine is left.Cap really well and dont apply too thick.

Thank you Ill give that a go next time, just wondered why it immediately happened on two nails but not the others.

Is it because the tips are made differently or something?

Thanks again

That maybe because there was a little shine left or the gel was a bit thicker in those areas.Try curing for a bit longer as well what gel are you using.

Im using the gel given to me in my kit, its a clear one by pro impressions, I cured for 2 minutes each time.

To me this says that your nails are too long and you should make them shorter. Nails don't chip unless they are whacked against something. I use gel over white tips frequently without difficulty.

Rule: Nails that are too long chip and break. The ones that are not breaking or chipping are not getting bashed.

The nails I have on now are no longer than I always have them so Im totally used to having them this length, It was leterally a corner on my first finger (right hand) that chipped off, there is a sign of a gap on my little finger on the left hand. Ive never had chipping before with my nails but is the first time ive used white tips.

I hear you BUT it still wouldn't chip if they were not getting a blow of some kind. Perhaps the gel is too thin? Perhaps the white tip was not etched enough prior to application? Only you know, the fact remains that gel will last without chipping on white tips if all is done correctly. One can use white tips with gel perfectly happily ... the problem is not because the tip is white but because the tip prep or the overlay is not adequate.

I understand completely what your saying however, Im not working today so they arent being 'subjected' to the normal batterings (by that I mean using a rally rubbish keyboard all day) and I followed the same procedure as I would have done using 'normal' tips.
I was just wondering if there were any common problems with using white tips as opposed to normal ones and what might cause the chips that I had on 2 nails.

I've tried to give you the reasons that would cause this above. Only you can tell if what you have done is exactly as thick as usual or if you have etched the white tip enough prior to application. My answer is that white tips shouldn't pose any particular difficulties just because they are white. The White tips I use don't cause problems when I use them with the gel I use in any case. I always use a clear gel over white tips and it should cure no differently.

If you are using coloured or opaque gels over a white tip, then that can be a problem. It could also be due to the actual type of white tip you are using possibly and to the material it is made of. I use CND Performance tips and CND Brisa Gels.

All the tips and gels are pro impressions but the gel was a clear one not coloured.

Its not so much that I thought Id done something wrong (as Ive said Ive done what I would normally do) but that it just seemed strange that it was only 2 of the 10 nails and they wernt the same finger on both hands.

If it is the case that the whites need to be more carefully etched than the normal ones then that is fine, I was just curious.

hows your u.v lamp ?
is it the one recomended for your gel?
are the bulbs still fresh?
are you curing for the time recomended by your gel manufacturer?

The UV lamp is fine, I warmed it up for a minute or so before using it.
The lamps are practically new (only used 3 or 4 times) and was the set given to me with the rest of the kit.

I have always been told to cure for 2 minutes for the first layer then 3 for the last one.
