Hi, I'm new to this site and nails. I am currently looking into doing a home learning course with Essential Nails. I have been looking on their website and received my brochure yesterday. After sitting down and looking through it cover to cover several times I'm not sure what to do next. I know that I definitely want to go into doing nails but with so many courses I'm not sure in which order I should do them. I was certain that I was going to do the Gel course first but now I'm not so sure and am wondering whether its more beneficial doing Acrylics first? I would be really interested to get everyone elses opinions on this. Sorry for waffling on. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Diane x

You will find that acrylic is more popular with clients as they think it is stronger but gel is the easier of the 2 to learn hth

so would it be better to start with the easiest one or is it worth the extra effort going straight in at the deep end, then learning the easier one after?

I teach my students L&P (acrylic) first so they understand brush control and product placement. They all like the gel as its easy but when its learnt first they product flat nails as opposed to l&p first they understand correct arches and put the product where it should, how it should.

Hi hun, I have don the gel and acrylic course with EN, I did the gel first, and tbh I wouldn't say it was easier to learn at all I think they both have their own difficulties to overcome.
I did the gel course first, but I wish I had done the acrylic first instead, as Lou says I think it is the more popular of the 2 mediums, clients recognise acrylic more than gel. Though it is getting better.
If you need any help at all feel free to pm me anytime hun

I know only gel so far.
But, I think you should learn L&P first as that's what I'm kicking myself in the butt for.
Taking my L&P next.
I think what makes acrylic harder is the ratio issue... which doesn't exist with gel.
They both have their own set of application challenges. I also think that L&P offers more versatility than UV Gel.
Hence why I'm saving up my pennies:green:

How did you find the course overall, I mean with EN, cos I've read some posts on here some people wouldn't recommend doing it this way.

I really enjoyed doing the courses, and learning from home worked for me, but you have to have the determination to do it, it is so easy when you come to a challenging problem and say to heck with it...and stash it away somewhere.
Obviously you don't have someone standing over you telling you if your doing something the wrong way,you just have the DVD, Sarah on the end of the phone who is great, and us geeks who have been there.
Once you have passed the course, you CAN get insurance...you CAN convert to other brands if you wish barring CND, because their training is product based there are a couple of others, but not sure which.
I now use Le Chat and NSI.
Whatever training you choose hun, just know that it is the first stepping stone into a fab business, and its not a cheap business either..you will try different product before your happy, and you will always be learning..

Hi!

I'd start off with learning how to do acrylic nails first. That way you learn the mix ratio to L+P and also know how to generally apply product to a nail. Once you have done that, then there is no stopping you from expanding your knowledge and learning gel and even learning 3D acrylic art.

Thank you everyone who has helped me make this decision. I am definitely going to start doing acrylics first. I'm glad I put this post on now, it has really helped me. Thank you all again.
