hi does everyone charge a deposit for hair extensions?

As its getting increasingly fustrating with people asking why i ask for a deposit.. etc

im constantly explaining myself.. and some just refuse to pay deposits...

what do you do regarding hair extensions bookings? or what systems do you have with new customers?

the deposit is for materials that cannot be used onn other clients so if they cancel your stuck with them
also to secure your time xx

I take a deposit for the full cost of the hair and inform them that it secures the fitting date. If they cancel the fitting and rearrange another appointment then this is okay, but if they cancel altogether then they do not get a refund.
If they dont leave a deposit then I dont order the hair or book a fitting date.
I think this needs to be stated on the consultation forms.

Hello,

I'm not a hair geek, but when I started getting my extensions done I was more than happy to pay a deposit for the lady to secure my booking & also that way she knew I was serious & it was not just a flash in the pan idea.

I know from our many chats as i have been with her now for nearly a year that she has had some clients in the past who have let her down so she is now strict with the deposit system,

Also if it helps I know my lady does do a free consultation & takes the deposit at time of booking.

All the best

xxx

I always ask for a deposit for the cost of materials too. I explain to the client that this is non-refundable if the amount if cancelled or is changed at less than 24hrs notice. I, of course, use my discretion with the latter if it is an unavoidable change.

yes i cant afford for people 'to just change their mind'.
i try to explain why some but ' i dont have a card etc to pay or cash till the fitting day' or just say 'no i dont want to pay upfront' ..and i stick to my deposit rule but i obviously hate turning people away

i also dont realy keep loads of hair in stock so i order the hair for the client..
i also do the same take cost of hair and 24 hours notice

i'm not a hair geek, but i take a deposit for everything, if they don't turn up they don't get it back, i have had people not show up then ring to re book. then ask what happens to there deposit????? madness. i wouldn't have a problem paying a deposit for hair extensions they are so expensive. i have been to a salon and still do, who take my card details and explain to me if i don't show up they will take a percentage, which i don't mind, they do that in hotels too. why don't ya try that, that way they don't pay anything, fancy dress shop did that too incase i didn't take outfit back. xxx

Hi- the salon we own didnt use to ask for deposits for hair extensions- but we became increasingly frustrated with people not turning up.

Other posts are spot on that this service is different than others in that it requires an expensively sourced product.

However, thats only part of it as far as we're concerned- as we're a busy salon, essentially someone not turning up is denying someone else a "slot"- and its terribly inefficient to have extensionists sat twiddling their thumbs.

So- absolutely charge a deposit, its not unusual and your clients wouldn't bat an eyelid- and if they do, then it's simply sorting out the wheat from the chaff- as they'd probably not be the greatest client anyway.

I ask for a deposit for any treatment over £10 i explain that this deposit confirms there appointment, i explain without a deposit i hold the right to let someone else have the appointment if they can confirm with a deposit, some people do question it but its really rather simple...time is money! i'm running a business i can't afford for my time to be wasted, i have never had anyone refuse to pay it....i always think though if they have every intention of keeping the appointment they wouldn't object to it. The most popular querey people have and quite rightly so is about there card details but i normally do it over the phone straight into the pdq and any card details taken are destroyed straight away.

Also with something like hair extensions your outlay is great i would definetly ask for a deposit that covers the cost of the product and 50% of your time used this would be non refundable.

I take a deposit which is the cost of the hair. As I get each persons hair custom mixed. I do not buy the hair for them without the money up front. I will not accept a booking without the deposit paid first. Time is money, and lots of people in other types of jobs really dont realise that if we dont work, we dont get paid.

I take a deposit for the cost of the hair and i tell clients that as the hair is ordered personally for them and we do not stock it that the deposit covers the hair ordered. Ive never had a client un happy with that

i always take a deposit, when i first started i learnt my lesson. made up to have my first client went there she defo wanted extensions so colour matched her hair, but said she wouldnt have money till her pay day. Me being that excited to get my first hair client said I'l order the hair and booked her in for payday 2 weeks later. Orders the hair, not a popular colour either, text to let her know it had come see her in a week. No reply. rings the week of fitting and my call keeps getting rejected. Rings the day before and the phone is constantly switched off. Gets a text off her the night of fitting saying I have changed my mind I dont want them now. I was fuming!!!
So ever since then I always take a deposit. Have had a few when I get to do the consultation that have said they have no money till pay day, obviously hinting and I nicely say well thats ok I'll just come back out when you get paid then I can order your hair that day and we can book you in.
I just say I have to take a deposit to secure the booking and so far theyve all understood. I fill out a form with them and sign a copy with them so they dont feel like there just giving away £100.

this def sounds like a good idea. I hate asking for deposits but it has to be done.i have also had a bad experience like this. Its good in a way because you learn from your mistakes and that there are some mean people in the world! :irked:
