:green:Good Evening all,

I've seen some very beautiful and introcate nail art designs, some by our very own geeks in the gallery.
I'm wanting to know what products are used to paint these designs, I have been using acrylic paints from craft stores but they dry so dull. Also what brushes/tools do you use?

Thank you in advance Carla x

I use some acrylic paint from art shops they are dull but then when its dry I use top coat to bring out the shine , some paints will smuge even when dry with the top coat though so better to try them first on tips I guess , also Angel fingers advised me to try air brush paints for some desighns with a tooth pick as a tool! I have some fine detail and fine liner, and striper brushes some are from spangles and some wear from NSI , oh and dotting tools are good fun to , hope this helps?

Have a look on the Young Nails website and also NFU Oh which is the Affiniti website you will find all sorts of lovely things there! :) xxx

I don't do nail art professionally but do it on my own nails. I use either nail art varnishes which are a pen and a fine brush in 1 or use acrylic paint with fine art brushes and then 2 layers of top coat :)

Hi!
I love Mosaic nailart brushes. Also use dotting tool. Acrylic paints are great but try water colours and polishes. With them you can do very thin lines. I don't mean you can't do thin lines with acrylic paint but try water colors/polishes and you can see what I mean :)

i get my nail art paints from www.sparklynails.co.uk they do some lovely colours, and i use striper and detailing brushes from nsi, also a dotting tool i bought off ebay x

how do you use a dotting tool? i have one but im clueless as how to use them.

Really with art there are no rules :) but the most common two ways to use a dotting tool is to dip one end (the ball part) into some varnish or acrylic paint and then one to the surface (prob a nail) if you reept this with out re diping into the paint you will get descending dots , also you can use it for a marbling effect by making large dots with it in diffrent colors and then useing it to swerl them togever .

I use acrylic paints, mostly, and varnishes. Acrylic paints are very different. You may want to try a brand before buying many colours - e.g. buy a jar of black or white and it can give you the idea about the quality and what yi can make of it. And you will always be able to find application for these two colours 'cause they are basic when it comes to nail-art.

As for brushes I use artistic brushes - kolinski # 00, 0, 1. Also synthetic square and slanted brushes # 2 to 4 - but they have to be very neat - no hairs sticking out.

Also, have recently bought some watercolours and intend to try them.

ps) I was writing about not-embedded art, I gather that's what it's called? The one you do on the surface of a ready nail.
