I'm booked to do HD Brows soon but I'm thinking I should get a refund.

It sounded like the next big thing, and was a really good concept but now I hear the tint isn't very good as everyones using refectocil and there are other courses just as good.

I was considering Kim Lawless and her brow design course, or halls of ivy has anyone been on these courses?

I was all hyped up about it but after their official launch in May (I booked before the launch) it just hasn't picked up as far as I'm concerned-wasn't too impressed with the celeb turnout, and I won't say who but one of the celebs had some really horrible looking, over emphasised brows...

Not sure what I should do! Does anyone here have advice on this? xx

Thx in advance x

I totally agree with you. It is overhyped. when it comes to beauty, most women dont prioritise their eyebrows. They go for lashes, tanning, waxing and nails. I think your instincts are bang on. HD brows from what I can see is all about flogging all the other bits and pieces that go with it. Personally I too would go with a Kim Lawless Course too. She is pricier than other trainers but you are paying for a top class education, not some bog standard trainer.

I disagree that women dont prioritise their eyebrows. Id say At least 70% of my clients have their eyebrows waxed and tinted, either on its own or with lashes, or other waxing, or other treatments entirely. But Most clients have their brows waxed.

I do agree that HD is a waste of time though. You're buying into a brand, rather than an exceptional and amazing treatment. And if the brand isn't looking up to what you expected then you're better spending your money elsewhere. :)

I would advise you to find out if they have a cancelation policy as you have booked in (and I assume paid in full) so long ago and are now considering pulling out.

They may have a right to keep some of the payment you made or even all of it if you dont give enough notice of canceling so find out where you stand asap.

Hi all, thanks for the responses and advice. I really appreciate it.

Baggybear, Ive spoken to Nouveau and they agreed to give me a refund but said they will take a 50 quid admin charge otherwise im getting the rest of the full course fee back.

I may check to see if its worth just buying the HD Brow palettes somewhere. I feel really let down but glad ive got all that money back!

Katelisa, tireeteam - my business plan is to offer lashes (semis and blink and go/express), facials, brows (possibly airbrush make up) - however im quite intrigued by the waxing - ive never been waxed before, so i dont know about its popularity.....

im planning on going on kims brow design course. x

Ooh, have you done any brow training before? I havent so hoping Kim will work her training magic on me...:)

The actual act of waxing an eyebrow is easy. Its the art of shaping an eyebrow is what you need to learn and master. :)

Christian eyebrows sold by izzabelle hammon are really good eyebrow powders that im sure work in the same way as the hd mineral powder they sell. You can retail them as well or they do professional palettes.Have a look at this link there is a video on it. Christian Eyebrow | izabellehammon.com

If it were me i wouldn't cancel. I've been having HD brows done for a while now and absolutely love them. I love the treatment, i love the palette and i love the advertising and the promotional material.. I've got nothing but good things to say about HD's.

What celebs were or were not at the launch makes absolutely no difference to me. i'm not investing in celebrities, i'm investing in a treatment and all of its branding.

What you're paying for is high quality, gorgeous advertising thats all done for you already. Yeah sure you could design a brow service that, in your opinion, is just like HD brows but how are you gonna market that? 'Brows similar to HD brows but not actually HD brows' ?

Personally (for my own business) i'd rather have clients who seek out the real thing and are willing to pay a premium price for that.

I don't want a fake Louis Vuitton handbag.. i want the real thing and i'm willing to pay full price to know that it's the genuine article.

I don't feel that HD has built that much of a name for itself that it can be compared to a LV handbag lol. :smack:

But wether I agree with it or not I can see the point you're trying to make. I just don't feel that the HD brand is big enough for the 'premium'. But thats my opinion.

I'm the same.We know about it as professionals but i have never really seen much about it otherwise as a consumer, and i haven't been asked about it by any clients.I did have a mum and daughter who actually had it and hated the effect they thought their eyebrows looked comical after with the tint and powder and immediately scrubbed it off.
I do think if the training were cheaper for what it is there would certainly be more up take.
It really is far too expensive especially for already trained therapists who already know how to tint and wax etc they should maybe do two training prices.

Hi Scottishjoy

Thanks for your comment. I just didn't feel there enough buzz about and while I absolutely love the branding etc, the cost of training was too much of a gamble to take after the 'big launch'. Theyve had their features in some magazines etc but I just don't feel I should go ahead with it right now. I also think celebs do make a difference it's just the way things seem to go in my area.

E.g if it were Kate Middleton or Victoria beckham I think it would make a difference, but I understand that a brand does not have to be endorsed by celebs to be successful.

It just doesn't feel right and that's why I decided to cancel. I just lost faith in the brand.

We've just got hds in, my head therapist did the training. Bit steep for us all to do it, but it's taking of nicely, for me it's conveying an image that we invest in quality brands & it's your champagne of brow treatments. Drives me mad that a salon down the roads made her own brow Tmt up, she's only been qualified a few months & is basically just doing brow tint, wax & thread & thinks it's enough to charge more than I am for hds!

You are right. I phrased that wrongly. What I should have said is that I dont think that women prioritise eyebrows to the extent of spending forty five quid on them alone plus buy makeup to add to them. Sorry I wasnt very clear.

A tint and wax is very popular and considerably cheaper too, well at least in my neck of the woods it is. x

Well, I just did the hd brow course and If I could have cancelled and got a refund then I would have. I certainly would have even more so after the course! I looked at the cancellation paperwork and after paying the first £600 it said that I would lose all of that, hence me going on the course and paying the rest of the fee.

Omg, taking £50 for admin fee. What are they writing on, gold scrolls?!

I've had only the best of experiences with Nouveau Beauty Group and would be hard put to find fault with anything to do with this company from products to training.

It costs money to pay the wages of people working in the office ... The time etc sending out mail, student enquiries, putting people in and out of the system maybe cancelling classes ... You have no idea how much time goes into things in such a busy set up as theirs ... I do though. It is allot of messing about when people cancel courses for no other reason than they have changed their mind. These things need thinking through first before courses are paid for. I take a deposit for my personal courses which is more than double that amount and a student looses it all if they cancel on me ... I will re-arrange if there is a problem, of course, but not cancel, not once booked on.

There are people making lots of money in all fields of beauty and people who specialise in specific areas do very well. There is a large proportion of clients with money to spend who like specialists and not 'jack of all trades' and they will seek you out if you are a specialist in eyes and eyebrows. Area is important but there are many doing very very well with HD Brows.

Maybe some looks are extreme but some people like that ... lord above look at Stilletto nails ... I wouldn't be seen dead in them but it's the opinion of the clients that counts not mine!

Its completely normal to take a non refundable deposit when booking a course. It benefits both 'student' and the company so if you look at it like that given the cost of the course in full - 50 quid is pretty good going.

If the company cant fill the space then they will have lost out.
