I have just recently started doing Acrylic extensions at college and we've not removed enhancements in class as yet - but I've just removed my own and I'm not sure how to tell if all the acrylic is off of my natural nail as i've had them on for a while now I cant remember what my natural nail feels like! - sounds stupid I know but i'm worried I've not got all the acrylic off my nails.

Your advice is much appreciated!!! :)

If you really can't tell by looking try painting a pale varnish over your nails, any bits of acrylic left on will stick out like a sore thumb. :green:

How have you removed the product so far hun ?

If you havent yet covered it in college,
I would recomended booking a professional for a removal,

I only say this as,From exerience..
When I started college, we learned to apply them weeks before we started learning how to remove them,
Not a good idea because of course we all came home hyped up...putting sets on,
Now because obviously we had only just began, there were lots of lifting problems etc...
I removed many a set incorrectly which resulted in me damaging my own natural nails quite a bit,
Its not worth the risk...

When you next go into college I would bring this up with the educator, explain the importance of learning removals as you are learning application.

The advice on here is excellent, but sometimes when something is new, face to face education is better, you can watch..feel and have a go infront of someone who can help.

Thanks for you advice - yeah I've already removed them - done that last night but now I'm looking at my nails, they just dont look right and I've already over filed one of them - which -OUCH- is really sore - so I dont want to overdo it again on another nail - think I'll head to a salon and see if they can help me - probably the best bet to we learn how to take them off properly - all the lecturer said was to soak them in a bowl of acetone and they'd come off and file then re-soak - then file and re-soak - but I dont want to end up with 10 very sore nail beds.:irked:

ahhh see there are much quicker....easier...more professional ways babe,
For instance, everytime you soak and take out of the bowl...your product will begin to harden again....you will be there for hours lol.
you will get bored and sore....and probably end up biting the rest off out of boredom DONT DO IT !!!!

done correctly when you have a little more experience, you will find you will only need to file over the enhancement at the beginning before you begin to soak to remove the shine and allow acetone to penetrate the enhancement.
Then there will be NO need to use an abrasive on your enhancement at all...
You will find the whole enhancment is removed easily, and you will only need to buff the natural nail at the end ,
xx
Defo go and see a professional for now, and then have a word with your educator...

what I did when I was training, was to buy
myself a spare GEEK folder
I used the search function at the top, to research anything I needed to know,
I picked out the bits of info that would help me and wrote it all down, and kept it in the ring binder.... then keep it nearby for when you need to know something,
so If you need advice on removals...just type in removals ..and pick out the best bits of advice and jot them down....same with brush care,,,,etc...etc...

Take care hun
you will be devastated if you damage your nails, I was...

you need your own nails to stay in tiptop condition, as they will be your advertsiment when you are all qualified and are looking for clients,

thanks your tips are great! I didnt soak and file - I followed a tip I'd read a while ago about soaking a cotton pad in acetone then wrapping it round the nail with some tin foil. worked a treat- my nails were off with in the hour - however I'm worried I dont have all the acrylic off. I'm going to make an appt at my local salon and get them to have a look at them for me.

Off to get me a GEEK folder too - thats a great idea!!!:lol:

Emmsybabes- ima newbie too and think the Geek Folder is a fab idea!!!! you should patent it! thanks!!!

just an idea but have you got Nailclass by GiGi..?? x

I have dipper trays which I poor the acetone into, then sit it in a plastic tub of warm water, as Em says as soon as you take your nails out of the acetone the product will start to set, so I always do one hand at a time(then replace water & do the other hand). I usually plonk my self down infront of the telly and just sit for half an hour so by the time I take my nails out there is'nt any or hardly any to push off! Also you should never have to apply any pressure when doing this it should just slide off I use my CND pushie but an orangewood stick works just as well.
If you are unsure if there is still product on your nail running your finger over it you should be able to tell, or wipe with some nail plate cleanser and this should show up any left over.
But as you seem to be really unsure probably best visiting a good nail technicians in your area to check for you.

Hope this helps xx

I love this site, I to have a geek file but mines on the lap top:green: can't read my own writing so its got to be on the computer or printed:lol:
My own removal ritual is to plug in the heated pad, soak a cotton wool pad in acetone, place on nail (shine removed, and length shortened) wrap finger in foil, put wrapped fingers on heated pad with sheet of foil over the top and a towel over the top of that, speeds it up beautifully.
