Please Help.
I only qualified as a nail technician in september and I am now working self employed! I love it :) but have come across a problem!
Recently I had a customer come to me who had never had false nails before. She wanted to try the Gel nails. The first time I did them, I did overlays and they were fine. The second time she wanted to try the white tips. Because of this I didn't use the white gel, just the clear. However within a few days she called me because the gel was lifting, not off of her natural nail, but off of the tip.
I have redone her nails three times but the same thing keeps happening. I have tried curing for longer, putting the gel on thicker, putting it on thinner, changing the bulb in my lamp, replacing the gel but nothing seems to help.:irked:
Its binds to her natural nail really well but not to the tip. Last time it had lifted just as I was finishing.
Does anyone know what else I can do??????????????

Hi, do you buff the tip with a white sanding block before you put any gel on ????

You need to make sure your white tips are buffed with at least a 180 grit file. The tips should be well etched and all shine removed.

A white buffing block is not sufficient to etch the tip well enough.

This should solve your problems.

are you capping the end of the nail?xx

i read on here it was something to do with the white of the tip reflecting the UV rays, so the gel doesnt cure properly.

Thanks for all your replies. I have been buffing the white nail but maybe I haven't done it enough. Jojo, I may be being really dense but what exactly do you mean by capping?
I read that to about it being the white reflecting, But does that mean its not possible????????

no your not being dense at all! capping is when you run your brush along the end of the nail, so the gel seals in and caps the free edge. HTH, im not always the best at explaining things!

Jo xx

You guys are getting this mixed up.

Of course it is possible to use white tips and gel IF THE GEL IS SEE THROUGH (CLEAR OR PINK) THE UV WILL PENETRATE AND CURE IT PERFECTLY OVER A WHITE TIP. The light can penetrate right through the gel to the tip.

It is only when you use opaque white or coloured gels that for a complete cure the light needs to cure from both sides so you need to use clear tips because the light cannot penetrate all the way through the opaque gel.

I just learned something:lol: I didn't know only clear or pink gel cure on white tips, and colored you have too do both sides; I LOVE THIS SITE!

Hi just saw this now do you mean if you use a cover pink gel and white gel over clear tips you have to cure underneath aswell? And also if you use coloured gels eg build the nail in clear gel and then designs in coloured gels over it you have to cure underneath aswell as on top?

If you plan on using an opaque colored gel (ex white) on the top of the nail, you should use a clear tip. You do not need to cure the bottom of the tip because your clear tip will let the uv pass through. UV lamps have reflectors to reflect the light under your free edge.
