hi ya guys,
havnt been on here for a while but im in need of some advice.
4 weeks ago i applied a full set of enhancements (pink & whites) on a friend of mine. Two weeks in she ripped the whole nail off acrylic and natural nail, she went down to the walk in clinic and they just put it back on and wraped it up for her.
she was fine for a few days but then had to get antibiotics as she got an infection.
Ive seen her nail a couple of times and i personaly think it looks really good, it looks like its slightly reatached itself.
but shes just txted me asking if i can come and take it off cos its hurting her.
my worry is i dont want to be soaking her nail in acetone as the wound isnt fully healed and i certanly dont want to be filling away at it as this will just put pressure on her natural nail.

is there anything else i can do for her?

thanks xx

Hi Claire, sorry to sound dumb but is this walk in clinic the doctors ? I seriously would'nt have thought they would stick it back on because of the risk of infection, which you said she got! I dont really think you can do anything for her to be honest, Id send her to the doctors for advice xx

yes it is, just at our local hospital.
i did think this but then i thought its prob best its covered, and it has slightly reatached itself.
i just dont think its gonna be a good idea to try and remove the acrylic at the mo. i did tell her to ring her doc but she seems to think she needs to take the acrylic first. xx

i would not soak in acetone like you say nor would i file the nail....if her nail is hurting she might have a second infection in it and need more or stronger anti biotics.....i would strongly advice her to go back to doctors hun x

thats what i told her, that she prob had a second infection.
from what i can see her nail isnt to long as they were short to start with and the acrylic is quite thin. so i dont think the acrylic is doing her any harm personally.

Hi personally I wouldn't touch I would advise her to go to her G.P. I know you have said it looks ok but you could do more damage than good.
How did they actually reattach it?

her problem is not the acrylic but the nail coming off huni....you have adviced her right and i would tell her like you say to go back to doctors huni....even if she has not got another infection,i would still leave alone huni.....until it has grown by itself.....

A client of mine did this the other week, she works in the gym where I rent a room and she came up to me for help straight after it happened. In this case I soaked her fingertip in alcohol:eek: then smothered the nail bed in Gelbond using aeseptic procedures of course. Amazing result, she healed very very quickly with no sign of any infection, but this was because of the speed she came to me. If she had waited until the next day I wouldnt have touched it and sent her straight to the docs.

In your case I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole!! It doesnt sound like its the Acrylic thats causing the problem, more likely the entire 'nail' that they have stuck back on is causing the pain. I dont think removing the Acrylic would make any difference to her pain level, and I personally wouldnt touch it with a barge pole. She is under the care of her docs on this one and I wouldnt interfere.

your a brave girl doing that ....did she scream reallllll loud when you put alchol on it!!!!!....

thank you for all your help!

ive just rang her to tell her what i thought she should do and shes only gone and filed it off. Luckly i did apply the acyrlic quite thin so she said it didnt hurt or take long and also she did use one of my files that i left for her in case they got abit to long.
I can now relax as shes removed it herself i dont feel to blame now if anything goes wrong.
