Hi everyone new to this all just qualified over a week and had started doing a girls nails. She has a very small nail bed and badly bitten nails. the first week i put them on two came off the second five came off so yesterday i put a complete new set on when i soaked the nails of they were not damaged and the nails have grown but do not know were i am going wrong . Thankfully the girl is very nice i find it a wee bit disheartening other people i have done have stayed on but i just seem to have problems with this one. I have been doing them three weeks this wednesday is this normal to happen or can anyone help. Going out now with my wee one to hospital but will be back on later:irked: many thanks

Nail biters are a challenge for any nail tech and even more so for somebody who is newly trained. The best advise i can give you for nail biters is....dont give them any length....make them short. They are not used to having any free edge at all so even the slightest free edge will prove to be a problem for them. They can gradually have them a little longer over a period of months but to start with i would keep them short.

I agree keep the nails short, I am lucky as I am the worlds worst nail biter, Id bite until they bled, so Ive been able to practice on myself. As long as the prep is all fine they shouldnt come off, you just need to tell them to be aware of them as they have such short nails there really isnt much to put the nails on. They will grow and in time it will become easier to do there nails.

At least she is a nice lady x x

I am not sure what way you were taught to apply the product, I was taught reverse application, and with this method you can extend the nail bed with a pink ( depending on what brand you are using, you may need to custommix or maybe they have a cover pink already? ) I am newly qualified myself, so by no means as knowledgable as lots of the other geeks, but I did this last week on a lady that had tiny nail beds due to severe biting, and it made her nails look amillion times beter, she had been refused by other salons, The nails are a bit more fragile, as the product is only adhered to a small area of nail, so they have to be a bit more carefull that other ladies.

I am sure a few of the more experienced geeks will be able to inform you regarding extending the nail bed as well, hth xx

I have a nail biter who bites the skin around the nail. I have told her when she bites the skin around the side walls it puts pressure on and the enhancement lifts at the sides. She was tough on herself and forced herself to stop and it has made a huge difference. Goes to show that skin biters are just as bad. Look at the skin round her nails. Is it all broken? if so then that could be part of the problem

She'll still be biting and having her fingers in her mouth. It's more likely this is the reason they "fell" off than anything you have done.

This is so true....It was Geeg who pointed this out to me a few years back...i even sat and pretended to bite my skin to see and yup..pressure from teeth on the sides of the nails.

hi everyone thanks very much for all your advice xxx

the other thing i have found is that there tends to be a lot more cuticle that needs to be removed on nail/ skin biters and am always extra careful when doing my prep you also need to be extra careful because sometimes the skin can be tender from all the nibbling and picking!!.
There is a good tutorial on entitys website of extending nail beds with opaque pink.
Hope that helps hun xx
