Hi

I've put a post on here before regarding nail polish but I still can't decide what's best!! I've not been doing nails for very long and trained with NSI. I use the Sparitual polishes, however as my business is very new I've not had many clients and my polishes aren't selling. (I still have the same bottles I started out with).

I'm thinking of changing to a new range with more colour choice but just can't decide what to go for. I want to do childrens parties when I've got a bit more confidence, should I try and retail bottles of polish at these? In which case I'd need a cheap range for children, maybe something like Attitude? So should I just try and get a cheaper range that will hopefully sell better, for both children and adults? I also like the Orly range however they are a little more expensive - I prefer the colour range and collections that Orly do in comparison to Sparitual, which I don't think I'm going to continue with.

Or should I just try and settle for something in between, maybe Misa which I can get through NSI. Also, where do I get Orly products from? I looked at the Graftons website and although I found the polishes on there I couldn't see a price list or 'add to basket' option.
I also like the look of the Nubar polishes, they seem to have some fab colours. Does anyone else use them?

And finally (sorry to waffle on), does it matter that I'm only NSI trained? I'm worried that I can only use other polishes (ie Orly, Creative etc) if I've had training in that specific brand....
Any help or feedback would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
ps I am so glad I found this website, it's so helpful!!!!

It doesn't matter what nail training you have had (as long as you have had some) you can buy polishes from CND. In fact you can buy all CND items apart from the Liquid & Powder or Brisa Gel (for those items you can book a class).

Now as to which polish range you should choose, don't you think that this is something about which you must make up your own mind?

If you are in business you must make decisions for yourself. You have obviously researched different options, now I think it is up to you to choose the range YOU like the best and is the most in tune with what you want to do with your business.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply, yes you are right I do need to make up my own mind. Where can I look at / buy the CND nail polish? I did go onto Sweetsquared.com but I couldn't find a list of the polishes available...

Many thanks

Hi Noodles,

I agree, it's a nightmare trying to choose from the ocean of bottles out there.

I have looked into this too, and tbh, for value for money, quality of product & colour choices, you'd be hard pushed to find much better than Creative Nail Designs enamel range.

They have loads of fab colours to suit all tastes, their polish does not go thick, as it contains something (can't remember what it's called) that, when agitated, thins the enamel - amazing!
These pilishes do not need excessives cotas to get the colours, the pigmentation is great.

Plus, they have excellent base coats, top coats and do some super little retails packs for chrimbo etc.

Give Sweet Squared a call on 0845 210 6060 and ask them to send you a catalogue.

Just as a thought, kids & nail polish??? I'd be looking at the peel off stuff to retail for kids to use!!
But, then again, the Mum's would like the normal stuff!

Sparitual have very sexy packaging, if it's not creating a problem, why change it, they have a great range.

The polish I currently use has 180 colors, when you get rid of the hideous shades, the colors one shade off one another, the flouros, the butt ugly glitters and the 50 million shades of French, it often brings you back to a sensible range of colors. Although I do stock hundreds of colors (many of them go unused) , although they can make a good looking display, it can also add quite a few frustrating minutes to a client choosing their color.

My clients also go 3 weeks between color changes (so my opportunity to retail is very little), even my manicure clients come in when they need a repaint. Each salon clientelle must be different, but I often end up giving a good client their favourite polish sometime during the year as a payback for the chocolates, wine and other goodies I get for seemingly doing nothing.

I have to agree with Bev Rose, CND enamels are divine, although I must say in all the time I have been doing princess parties I have never retailed anything! I also give the kids a party bag that usually has a little mini polish in it, maybe I shouldnt be doing this? But good luck with whomever you decide to go with xx

I use Zoya polishes.

They have an extensive range of colours from light, dark, fashion and bright for childrens parties.

I find they are good quality, my pedicures last for ages. Im mobile and the range comes in a Zoya case which i find really handy and whenever i open the case to a new customer of any age (inc children) their faces light up!

Will def have look a look at CND polishes then. Also, as I am NSI trained and did a manicure course with sparitual, am I able to use CND spa / manicure products or would I have to do a manicure course with them first? Also, is there a carry / storage case available for CND polishes?

your best off giving sweet squared a ring to talk about what you can and cant buy - i dont work there so i dont know! 0845 210 6060

as for cases, well they did do one but it got discontinued, as far as I am aware they dont have plans to bring out a new one. I am pretty sure they have stands though, for salons.

best of luck x

Hi

Thanks for that, where do you get your zoya polishes from?

I thought the advice I gave you on the other thread you started was good advice to be honest.

If you can't retail Sparitual polishes, what make you think you can retail Creative polishes? I imagine there isn't much difference in the retail price.

As I said in your last thread, it is your retail skills you need to look at, not your choice of polishes. Unless of course, your have another reason for wanting to change them, other than the fact they are not selling.

Sparitual is a fantastic range. I would certainly buy that over the likes of Attitude or similar brands.

I imagine you will retail more when your clientelle grows. If you don't currently have the clients, then there is no-one to sell to? I would maybe concentrate on that first instead of forking out a load of money for a new polish range.

Hi

Yes I totally agree with needing to work on my retail technique and building client base etc, but I am thinking of changing ranges anyway - I like the look of the orly polishes as they seem to have more colour choice, plus I like the miniatures they sell as well whereas sparitual don't do that.

Supernail.co.uk x

Go to Zoya polishes, scroll down and you will come acrosss the carry case. it contains 72 polishes, you an pick the colours or just have the standard colours.
Think it was a little over £200 including vat. x

Did you actually know that Orly and SpaRitual are the same company?? Perhaps you should look at the reason why SpaRitual is so unique, i.e free of DPB, Toluene and Formaldhyde, especially if you are planning to use them on children. Not only that but they are super shiny and there are over 150 fab colours, i love them.

Hi Rachel, no I didn't release they were the same! I really like the miniatures that Orly do, I wish sparitual did the same!! Do you use Sparitual then?

Yes i use SpaRitual. They can't produce a mini as the bottle design is patented and because of the recyclable materials they use. I do like the colour range with Orly though, have you seen the new Spring Collection?? Tres' girlie! :green:

Hi

I use both Orly Manicure Miniatures and Spa Ritual. If I'm honest, the Orly polishes are awful. They go very thick, they aren't nice to put on, they tend to be streaky and they chip very easily. I also don't think the colour range is great.

Spa Ritual however, I love. I agree with the earlier post about your selling technique. I actually read that full thread.

I put SpaRitual nail enamels in my salon recently and I am already having to place another order because I have sold that many.

I have used Creative enamel and I personally don't like it, I find the brushes too thin and they are very pricey. Magnetic do a nice range of enamel, they are a relatively new company, but again, they can be pricey.

If I were you, I would hang on in there with Spa Ritual until you get chance to go to a trade show. There you will be able to try lots of polishes and see which ones suit you. If you are enthusiastic about the products you use and you believe in the, you won't have a problem selling them.

Like I say, hang on until a trade show then try lots of different brands of polish at once. You will probably get a real good deal on polishes there as well.

I opened my business a year ago. I am still fairly wuiet, but I have picked up so much since I first opened and sold some great products. Stick at it and you'll get there. I sometimes think too many people stumble at the first hurdle.

I really hope this helps, and good luck

I think if you are happy with Sparitual then I would stick with them, I honestly dont see that if you are not selling enamels, that things will change if you stock another brand!

I am a CND girl, love their enamels, but I hardly sell any, my clients prefer me to re-do their enamel, so they come back on a weekly / 2 weekly basis!

CND enamels arent pricey fyi!!

I personally think they are but perhaps you should have a look for yourself and see which polishes suit your salon.
