Hiya.
Im trained in hopi ear candling and was advised there are not many contra-indications to this, the main ones being grommets and a perforation or lack of eardrum.
i had a client booked in the other day who told me (on her record card) that she had had a perforated eardrum but it was more than 20yrs ago.(i didnt do the treatment there and then as i wanted to check if it would b ok first)
would you perform the treatment on this client?
i checked with my insurers who said you would do as youre trained and couldnt offer any more info.
this client is very keen to have the treatment but i want to be safe, rather than sorry!
i heard that perforated eardrums can heal?
what is your opinion please?
Thanks.

hi there!
i have just looked on the biosun website and it says that you cant have it done if u currently have a Perforated eardrum. its doesnt say anything about a Previous Perforation. i would think that seen as though the eardrum will have healed since it was 2 years ago, you will be absolutly fine to do the treatment! if you are still not sure then just get your client to fill out a disclaimer form, just in case.
hope this helps you!

love rachel

Thanks for the reply.
A few other ppl i have asked said they think it will be ok as it was sooooo long ago.
just needed to be absolutly sure!

nice name by the way!
(i am also called rachael)
but not spelt the same, :green:

I would check with her doctor just to make sure and suggest she goes for an ear eaxmination with her doctor first, perforated ear drums can last a long time its ears, so i would want to be as sure as i can possibly be!!

if you are still not sure then just get your client to fill out a disclaimer form, just in case.

Disclaimers do not stand up in court - please don't use them. Get her doctors permission. x

thats what i thought disclaimer-wise.
thanks for all replies, il get her to check with gp. :green:

When I did my training was told you must wait until 6 months after perforation to allow time to heal.

perforated ear drums heal. So really the fact it was 20 years ago is not relevant. I would not have a problem with this. x
