hi guys,

I was just wondering how long after your initial foundation training you were before you felt competant to do appointments/private nail enhancements? or even rent a room in a salon to do enhancements on others?

I did my training in November 2004 and started advertising in Jan 2005...so about 2 months....i did this cos i know what i am like...the longer i leave something the more worked up i get and back out....i knew i had to just throw myself in at the deep end and just go for it...the best way to improve is to work on real clients IMO..always charge something and gradually increase your prices.

I qualified in Dec 07 and I still haven't advertised my services to the general public for 2 reasons:

1) I am so tied up with my full time job I never get time to practise (well not as much as I would like)

2) I still have zero confidence!

I think it is different for everyone though and I think I am probably behind a lot of the people I qualified with!

I started immediately from a home salon and in 3 months I moved into my own salon within a ladies clothing shop and in 2 more months I was fully booked and had to take on and train an assistant! The rest as they say ............ over the next three years I opened 3 more salons.

Hiya :)

I actually feel confident enough to start now and I'm only just passed day 3 of my 5 day Creative foundation!

I just finished my 2nd set of the 4 I have to do before I go back in 2 weeks and I did them on a girl who works in the salon I rent a beauty room in. Every one has commented on how great they are (she has really small nail beds, I can see where I need to improve but that's cos I'm super critical!) but she loves them and it appears everyone else does too. A girl who had her nails done this morning by the tech who is resident here looked at the ones I just did and said she wished i'd done hers instead! How's that for a confidence boost?!

I charged £5 per set when training and had plenty of practice so part way through I put this up to £10 per set. About 2 weeks after qualifying I launched my mobile business and started charging the full price (£30 per set) and all the clients I had during training have stayed with me. The biggest drawback for me is that it still takes 2 hours for a full set (sculpted) and sometimes as much as 2.5 hours for a re-balance. I know though that the more sets I do the quicker I will get so faffing about just doing friends and relatives is not an option if you're serious about the profession. I would go for it as soon as you can
