I was just wondering how many layers of gel you all use when doing gel enhancements? I was taught to do 3 layers - a thin, lock in layer, then a thicker layer to build the apex, and finally a top coat. I had someone else do my nails last night and I'm really pleased with them, however she applied her gel in 5 really thin layers instead!! And because there were more layers, she didn't seem to need to build the apex up quite as much (something I always struggle with when doing my second layer). It almost looked like she was just painting 5 thin layers on, all the same thickness. Does it matter how it's applied? How do you all do yours?

Many thanks

I would imagine it all comes down to how you were taught with the brand that you use.

Each one has there own recommended guidelines on how it works best, so what works well for one system might not work well for another.

I tend to use 3 layers on longer nails (plus the top coat) but 2 on shorter nails, where less apex is required.

I know others, who also use Brisa gel, who do less - I guess it is down to personal preference.

I use one thin layer and one thicker. Then finnishfile and at last top-gloss. In the beginning I used two instead of one thick. I think it comes down to you application method, if you manage to get a thick enough and smooth layer in the beginning... Ah... Sorry, I am tired... Did you understand? Haha, I wished I could speak Norwegian, but then you wouldn't understand a word...:-D

I use ibd soak off and buff off and I was tought when using colours to do it in thin layers until you get the required colour, could be 3 or more depending on the clients preference of colour depth.

I also use Calgel and its 2 coats colour then the clear top coat.

Do you know what product you had?

Yes, she used CND's Brisa gel.

With my gels from Herb-Garden I was trained to make the nail in three layers; first one thin layer of pink, then white for the free edges and last build the apex (with the "1-ball technique") with clear gel. But I'm finding it annoyingly difficult to master the no filing/"1-ball technique", so usually I end up filing/buffing away any imperfections and put on a coat of Glaze' Go

i use nsi gels and i use the 3 layer method of bonder, builder and topcoat.
but i would be interested to know if there are any techs that use the thin layer method instead and how they find itand what products they use?
thanks.xx
