Brought my first child home from hospital on my 30th birthday, and had my second child 8 years later. Big age gap due to 1 miscarriage and hubbys job loss.

Thanks ladies. I just hope my girls understand why I work so hard and can't make every school play etc. I'm hoping one of them will join me in the salon one day :)

Lynn amber I read an article about population growth etc, I will try find it.
I know in my area the last census predicted that by 2020 their will be more retired people than working people. That's because people are having less children whilst we have a rapidly ageing population, that live longer due to better medical care.So it's looking like we are not going to have enough people to look after the older generation.

I'm thinking more on the world wide population ,but yes as we are living longer that means more resources and less space

I'm not upset, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I cannot be offended by simple minds. How we benefit from having 9 children? What a ridiculous question. I'm not even going to bother answer it. How we live and our beliefs, are totally different to the next person. I am a Mother Earth, hence we go forth and multiply. I nurture my children and they are respectful and loving individuals. I could ask for no more. I do not burden my older children with their younger siblings. We as a family are One Love and united, so please save your pity for someone that needs it.

As for Christmas - we as Rasta do not celebrate this made up day. Our festivities are celebrated at other times of the year. Unfortunately they are not recognised in the UK.

Enough of this Babylonian rubbish talk. I'm off to dish out INI family ital rice and peas and vegetables.

I'll stick to ini Rasta forum from now on. There we are not frowned or looked down upon.

Rastafari

Who's actually offended here? I'm not. You can call me simple, judgemental, rude, and whatever else you see fit all night long if you like - I have no personal problem with you having 25 kids if you want them..... as long as I don't have to pay for them! But you are not the only one in the world with nine children you just happened to be on here talking in a thread about having nine children. Do I agree with NINE children. NO. but that is my opinion... and I also have a strong opinion of the wording "I am a Mother Earth, hence we go forth and multiply"..... there are a few different connotations to that phrase that I can think of.

I will turn my nose up to anyone that pulls the racist and sexist cards when they see fit. It seems to be ok in your eyes to tell us Christmas is a 'made up' day and your fesitvities are at different times of the year and not recognised in the UK.....I find that hard to believe as we cater for EVERYONES religion on this island, regardless whether we agree to it or not!

I don't care if you're muticoloured or multiracial we are talking about nine children who can not possibly (in my eyes) have the same privelidges as a family with two children...who loses out here..in my opinion - the children. Maybe we should agree to disagree on this one... and the world is not 'one love' or 'united' as much as you would like to believe it is.

My friend has nine children never met such a lovely family all children are grown ups now.
Both parents are hard working and the family are good hard working lovely people.
I look at this family and think wow inspirational they are all so close and so caring but I think that's down to there fantastic mum!!

How did you all work out when the right time was to have a baby? My mam keeps telling me your career stops at the point when you have children. So I can quite see myself putting it off forever XD

I just wonder why everyone gets child benefit anyway? It's our CHOICE to have children I don't see why we should get money for it. Or they should cut it down to you get it for your first child and that's it.

Also I don't see why the UK has to recognize EVERY holiday for every religion/culture. We have our own and they have there's; do Rasta's celebrate our 'made up holiday,' in their countries? I doubt it.

You do have a problem, otherwise you wouldn't keep blabbing on about it.

You obviously have no idea about Rastafarian culture, so you are ignorant to how we as a people live. Rasta people are all about spreading love and positivity. I assume your perception of us are dirty matted hair and ganja smokers!

I have just asked my 19 year old daughter to read through this thread, and she is appalled by some of the comments on here, especially from you. She is now offended too. Yes, you are a very small minded person.

My daughter can also vouch she has not suffered in anyway for having siblings, and thankful for life, health and a family that share love.

This country DOES NOT recognise Rastafari. Although it is not a religion, but a way of life, it should be recognised.
Schools do not recognise our festivities, nor on any form I have ever had to endure filing in, has ever given Rastafarian and option in the 'faith/religion' section.

I don't give a damn what you think of me for having 9 children. I'm still with my partner - father to all of my children, and very very happy with our lives.

It is One Love in our world. Keep your eediot opinions to yourself.

Kristalinx that isn't true. I finished studying beauty, done my placements and always worked while having my kids. My eldest is now 9 and I now have a salon, which was my goal, so I can honestly say it hasn't stopped me. Along the way I also worked other jobs to help pay the bills such as cleaner, bar work etc. I never had any family help, but found an amazing childminder. Where there is a will there is a way xx

What's with the dissing?

In our culture the 25th dec is not an accurate date for the birth of Jesus Christ. According to the bible, the 7th Jan, is the more accurate date. This us when some Rasta tribes celebrate Christmas.

Rasta is world wide, so I don't know what your going on about.

Why shouldn't the Uk recognise different cultures celebrations? I thought this country was supposed to be inclusive.

I also wonder how many of you actually go to church in the year, read your bible, prayer before meals at bed time etc? Or are you all to busy getting caught up in presents, stuffing your faces with Turkey, getting pissed etc, to even give a s*** about Jesus?

I had my child which was unplanned at 23 but I returned to work afterwards, did a degree even! I've had another one now who is 17mths and I'm back at work again! Yes it's a lot harder with kids but by no means impossible! Don't be too put off by that it can be done

Well not everyone believes in Jesus though Debbie, many people don't celebrate Xmas for that at all! They just enjoy the time off, good food, family etc, this is not for us to pass judgement on! Just because people are non believers doesn't mean they all get pissed and eat loads!!

When I was in sixth form when we all filled in the contact information forms, Rastafarian was an option under religion. So it must be becoming more recognised. :)

Amazing! I would love my own salon but I'm put off cos I've got the kids! Fantastic to hear from people who have done it!

absolutely disgusted reading through peoples 'opinions' here!!
How may anyone jump to the conclusion that someone is claiming all sorts of benefits because they have 9 children. also how can u say that they must suffer! i know plenty of big families who work hard and could not be happier!
Shame on the horrid people!!!

I think I'll just keep thinking oh but I could go for another promotion if I wait a year and never get round to it. My boyfriend said to me the other day he thought 24 or 25 was a good age. That freaked me out considerably as it's only 2 years away :D

I must say I do agree with this! The UK should to be slated for not recognising EVERY single cultures holidays this doesn't go on anywhere else in the world? And this is what makes every culture and religion so unique - because they are so different!

I think in the UK we are actually quite good with recognising and respecting other faiths, it is taught in our schools things such as Ramadan, eid, Diwali etc

Sorry but this is a disgusting comment, you should not by any means bring religion into a topic like this, it's irrelevant!!!
Not everyone believes in the real purpose of Christmas but celebrate it to gather with their loved ones, which is okay!!!
I do believe in the real purpose of Christmas and I do not get pissed, receive presents and etc.
This comment is very judgemental and rude.
You apologised for saying its a "made up day" and then say something even worse not even a few hours later.
This thread needs to be closed. I cannot believe how shallow this post is.
Sorry but I am reporting you, as you can see comments like this really offend me.

You are correct I really do not have any idea whatsoever about Rastafari religion/way of life, I never claimed to have. I wouldn't go as far as small minded but self opinionated I'll happily accept.

I'm not a believer in any faith to be honest and personally I find Christmas over commercialised and expensive. I don't think any less of you as a person - I just don't agree with the nine children and some of the peace and love wording, that doesn't make me an idiot in any way shape or form. I say things that others will only think, unfortunately this generally sparks a form of distaste to most and then comes the 'I'm offended' what is it you are offended about exactly? that someone has the gumption to say they don't agree with nine children - so what. I'm not offended with being called idiot, small minded, or someone that has a 'problem'. But as you will see so often on this forum, offence is taken not given. You have the same right as anyone to air your opinions on this site as the rest of us....but to be personal with directly calling someone an idiot because they disagree with you probably won't sit kindly with some. I don't have a problem with it.

You sit here calling everyone 'small minded,' or how we have 'simple minds' however you are the worst one here. Having an opinion does not make someone 'small minded.' Obviously you think you are superior to everyone else because you are Mother earth well I'm sorry to rain on your parade be you are not. Nor is your culture/beliefs better than anyone elses. You are the small minded one.

I respect everyone's beliefs but just because I don't agree with them doesn't mean I'm 'small minded.'

I'm actually sick to everyone jumping on the 'small minded' bandwagon along with many other ones which regularly pop up on this forum.
