I am soon to be do my waxing training with Joe90. As i currently do my nail and beauty treatment's as a mobile therapist either at the clients home or mine, i was wondering how easy it will be to do waxing treatments at the clients home.

waxing is fine to do mobile. heat the wax up before you leave your house then as soon as you get to your clients house plug it back in, it wont of set completly so by the time you've set up your treatment it should be warm enough for you to use

I tend to keep my wax pot as low as poss, without chancing running out of course, so it doesn't even need heating before i leave. It melts very quickly, so by the time you have set up, the edges will be melted and you can start from there. Except if im using my non strip as it takes ages so do heat first. It's easy to take a couch and picnic table and box of waxing stuff in.
Clients love it, this is my bread and butter.
Always be prepared, as half the clients i go to suddenly decide to have an extra area waxed. Ill go to do a half leg and they'll say oh can i just get my underarms done too. All good!!!
Good luck.xx

I won't add to what has already been said but it may also be a good idea to get yourself an insulated bag so that once the winter months come the wax posts are protected somewhat from the cold air.

Hi there SparkleJeanie,
I have been a mobile beauty therapist (in Australia) for quite some time now & have found waxing is a very popular and convenient service to have available to your clients. I personally don't like to carry a wax pot around in my vehicle as I'm worried that it will spill, and it would be a horrible mess to clean up.

I use a Hive roll on cartridge heating unit. It is easy to transport & holds 6 wax cartridges, with a choice of 80ml or 100ml screw lid bottles. I can plan out my day of waxing because I know how many cartridges I will need eg. One 80ml cartridge = One half leg wax.
If I need to use hard wax: I heat the unit as I am setting up (if it hasn't heated in time I put a cartridge in the microwave for a minute) and then pour the wax onto the spatula over a small microwave safe bowl (that has a lid) as I am waxing the client. The wax will set & go cold in the bowl but then can be heated in the microwave again. When I am done the wax has set & I can put the bowl into my case and off I go to the next client.

I am however curious how other mobile beauty therapists that do use wax pots stop them from spilling while traveling from client to client?

I hope this helps and gives you other options to consider. All the best and Good Luck!

As much as I prefer to wax with a spatula......if I were mobile, I'd use a roller system. xxx

I am not a mobile therapist but if I were, I would put my pot(s) and ancillary products in a sturdy plastic crate in the foot well of the passenger seat. If the crate is packed properly I can't see why the pot would get tipped over.

Roller systems are all very well except they are not actually that kind, they can drag the skin and they are also not as workable as a spatula in undulating areas. (Think large client, bikini line!)

They are probably also less profitable and lets face it, we work to make a living!

Just one thing I would like to add for SparkleJeanie, you may want to take something to protect the clients floor. Either a towel or maybe a shower curtain.

I would use roller wax if mobile it is much easier. It can be heated up relatively quickly compared to a pot of wax as the cartridges are in separate chambers. No spilling or mess. Dragging the skin is not really an issue if the skin is prepped well (using oil where required) and if you prime the roller first (by rolling on a strip to get the wax through)- though I do not need to do this often at all. If you wish to offer hot wax (best for brazilians etc) then a small pot will be needed but applying oil underneath the warm wax roller is an alternative that some therapists use.:)

This is exactly what I do in the car and have never had a problem, I would not go out and buy a roller system for the sake of it. Obviously if that's what you like to use cool, but it is not essential for mobile at all. Xx

Many thanks every one for all the great suggestions. Certainly given me something to think about. Hoping to find some good deals on equipment & supplies at the pro beauty show next weekend. What do people suggest.

Hi

Personally I would use a roller system as you have less chance of spillages. I used to use pot and spatula but it always use to spill no matter what i protected it with  all the advice that everyone has given you is spot on! All i would say with the roller system is either change the heads or clean them in front of your clients as I have found they like to see that you are hygienic

Good Luck with your mobile business!

Vicky

I've been waxing mobile for 3 years. I use the large hive heater and use tin foil over the lip of the pot to prevent any chance of spilling in transit. I just don't break suddenly when driving which is just sensible driving anyway! I couldn't be dealing with cleaning the roller system's head and a spatula never gets jammed! I also make sure to carry the bag I put the pot in carefully. I have never had any problems but could see how you could if you weren't confident.
