GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD what do I have to do to keep my nails nice and tin, Im finding by the time I apply my white then my builder there thick even though im doing my best to keep them nice and slim, then if I file and shape them sometimes Im filing my white away. PLEASE someone help what am I doing wrong.I am still learning as I go but don't recall having this problem when I first started doing nails or maybe I'm just getting fussy. I would love some advice. Please help I know this site is the place to get it.:irked:

Is it gel or L & P you are having a problem with and are these sculpts, tips or overlays ? I took a few months to get the thickness of my L & P down practice definitly makes perfect lol I only use gel for natural nail overlays at the moment and always just do to thin layers of white then clear over the entire nail, but never need to file after xx

if its a problem you are having when you do a rebalance of the nails, id say you need to file off more product in the preparation stage. then when you apply the new white it wont be too thick and need lots of filing.

try to look at the nail from down the barrell and the side profile when you do the prep filing and when you apply the product this will give you a better idea of where you need to concentrate your efforts.

Thanks guys ,Its gel not L&P don't have the trouble with L&P at all. I always file my white off again for re balance otherwise I do find the tip to be to thick, so there is alot of prep work done. I use one tin layer of white then my clear I would do very little filing if only just to shape the nail. But feel if it is done to tin there will not be enough straight. So I build in all the areas needed but find its to thick to the tip of the nail leading to filing then leading to somethings removal of white.I think if I could master the white with the right balance of gel I would be able to file a little to shape the nail but without removing the white. Then I may get the result I'm looking for. Maybe the white I'm using is to thick. What I do know is its really bothering now so I need to fix it  sorry to be rambling on.

Use less product.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but too thick means too much and it is a simple matter to use less. It really is not that difficult a problem to solve.

You need to try it and then to test it, in order to gain confidence that a thinner nail will last.

Ya what your saying makes perfect sense maybe I should like you said have a bit more confidence in my nails lasting without piling it on. But I do only use one coat of white on tips , so maybe I will try a tinner gel maybe the one I'm using is to thick which is adding to my problem. Any recommendations on the white gel would be great. Thanks for the advice as always.:)

I used to have a problem with ending up with a very thick white on gels, but have learned to use less now which is making them look loads better :) Dont know what to recommend for a white gel, as I see you use NSI/Young Nails, and I dont use these. Have you looked to see if they do other whites? Or maybe contact them and ask what they would recommend xx

I should have a bit more confidence in my nails.

My nails were too thick at the begining, especially at the free edge. And the rebalances were hell to do and were thick and ugly.

I solved it this way:

1. I built the whole nail first as thin as I wanted it to be and then apply paint on french on the finished nail. That way, when rebalancing, you file the white off, apply gel where needed and when finished, apply white, finnishing gloss and it's done much easier.

2. I made myself wery long thin nails and worked around the house to see what will/wont happen.

3. Watch the pictures of the nails you would like to be able to do, read about it (Nailclass by Gigi), and visualise every word, visualise yourself doing it.

It's all in our heads pretty much... if you're upset that it'll go wrong while doing it, it will go wrong. Easier said than done, but you gotta have peace of mind when doing it, and that will give you 'peace of hand'. I hope I made sense with this one...

... and if you don't do it at first, don't beat yourself to it, no one was born and knew everything. Keep practicing.
