I have a new client who is wearing acrylics at the moment but wants them removed and gel put on (bio sculpture). I do bio but not acrylic - was just wondering how to remove acrylic?? do you soak the nails in accetone?

I have said that she may need to get them soaked off where she had them done.

But if removal is straightforward I would rather do them for her as she is family and it will cost quite a bit of money to pay for a full set from me and removal at the shop she normally goes to!

Thanks for your help xxxxxx

Hi! You soak off acrylics with acetone the same as you would for some gels. Hope this helps:D

Ok thanks - so do you dip the nails and leave them to soak in a bowl of accetone? Will I need to do alot of buffing after? Is it best to warm the accetone? x

The way I do (not saying that everyone does the same) I have an acetone bowl from CND with seperate finger compartments, which has a compartment for putting warm water into. This warms the acetone in the finger holes. I put Bio Oil around finger tips - not nails, soak some cotton wool in acetone, place on tips, wrap in foil and then place into little slots filled with acetone. Does this make sense to you, cos it does sound a little confusing to me:o

its confused me a little... u wrap nails in foil with cotton wool inside? and then place the foil covered finger tips into acetone too? does this make it quicker?

This doesn't make sense at all to me??? Foil and a soak!!??

Even if you only provide 1 system for your clients it is really important that you understand other systems. (not necessarily be able to do them)

I really don't think anything less is a professional technician.

If you provide a specific system how can you market your method if you don't understand the others? I'm not suggesting every tech must learn how to apply everything but it is such a common occurrence that nails need removal and every tech needs to know how to do that for every type of nail.

In answer to the original question, L&P is removed by acetone. This can be done by soaking (in a covered bowl)for about 10-20 mins or by cotton wool. If it is an MMA L&P it will take a very long time!

Rub fingers from the first knuckle up with cuticle oil avoiding the actual nail...saturate cotton ball with acetone...lay on top of nail...wrap with aluminum foil...(about a 3-4 sq in piece) put under table lamp for about 30-40 mins...remove foils and cotton...use metal cuticle pusher...scrap gently from cuticle to tip...should come off easily...(putting under light is not necessary but the heat speeds up the process)...(the cuticle oil acts as a barrier so the acetone won't dry out the skin...hope this helps!!!

Ive just taken a couple of my CND L&P enhancements off so this is the first time ive done it. I used warm acetone on cotton wool and wrapped in foil for 30 minutes. It came off easily but has left a slightly rough layer on my nail - does this mean i need to leave it for even longer than 30 mins??

Also i was wondering what everyone else does when removing l&p for a client if you have enhancements on your own nails? Is wearing gloves sufficient to protect them? or do you have a clever way of soaking the cotton wool and taking out of acetone without ruining your own nails?

Thx x
